    30 day focus - Day 16
    Fat Boy set to 9
    Sputnik Blade
    MDC Face Lathered
    3 passes

I had opened up the Fat Boy to 9 yesterday and got a very smooth shave and close even though I had a couple of weepers and some irritation. Today's shave seems just as close without weepers and most of the irritation. This is a very close shave, as good as I get with the Slim. I still have a little trouble getting the whiskers underneath my nose, but I am getting them.

After 16 days, I will say that the Fat Boy can be as good as the Slim Adjustable. Once a proper technique and setting are learned, either one can do a fine job.

BTW - I am still keeping track of exactly how much MDC I am using. At the start of the month I put exactly 20 grams of MDC into a container and have been using that daily. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how much I have used in 16 days?

    FRIDAY
Pre-Dawn Friday shave using the OD Hans. Three-passes left me in near-BBS form, which considering the time of morning, I'm quite happy.
    Old-school aftershave & definitely old-school brush!

    Have a blessed Friday, all!

    OCtober - Trick or TREET
    October 16

Razor - Gillette 1959 Ball End Tech
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Brush - Omega Pro 48
Soap - TSD Lanolin Bay Rum
Post - Cold water, Alum, Nivea Original

Well here we are. Today is supposed to be the final shave with the Treet Falcon. Yesterday this blade went south as fast as geese with a blizzard behind them. Maybe even faster than a retired couple from Michigan in an RV in October! From a very nice first pass to bloody remains by the end. Sanity demands that I call it what it is and move on without giving it that third chance. After all, there's only so far you can push a blade until it just becomes an exercise in futility and pain. Well, I don't think I've gone that far yet and I never claimed to be sane. Not 100% anyway. So, here we go. The only concession was to have the Aristocrat loaded with a Voskhod and at the ready in case things went even further south. As in I see the equator from here south.

The Pro 48 and TSD are great together. Lots of great smelling bay rum lather. Hey, if things go totally bad at least that will be the final aroma as I pass out from lack of blood. Happy thoughts. I did remove the blade and hand strop it this morning. No sign of any rust so that is a positive. So, lathered up and off we go. First pass WTG and I could feel the dullness. Just a nagging feeling of drag that wasn't really cutting well. On my face it wasn't too bad, though the result was disappointing. On my neck it might as well have been the razor without the blade. That ineffective. It created a nice overall sense of irritation though which was pleasant. I rinsed and took a good look and feel and realized that it would be at least 4 if not 5 passes to get that knocked down with the Falcon. Clearly this bird has crashed and burned. That's enough for me. Grabbed the Russian rescue and did another full pass with some touch up. Got to a near DFS and called it good. The irritation from yesterday and that single pass this morning was already on the rise so no reason to make it worse.

So, the Treet Falcon is not a treat. The first day it seemed like it would take over the top of the carbon list but only if it's a one and done blade. I will say that if someone is wanting to try carbon and has no experience the Falcon might, and I mean might, be a good blade to get for one shave. Just to get that audio effect and the feel of carbon. But I wouldn't give it a second chance. It's deceptive after that first day because it appears to be working when it's really just falling out of the sky. Must be something about bird named blades. Flying Eagle, Treet Falcon. Neither one will make it into my collection.

Well it was bound to happen.....that's a TRICK!

    SHAVE OF THE DAY
    sotd68.jpg

PREP: OCCAMS CRUSHED LIME PRE SHAVE SOAP
    RAZOR: GILLETTE TECH/ PROBAK
    BLADE: SUPER-MAX SUNRISE
    BRUSH: AOS BADGER
    SOAP: TACONIC BAY RUM
    POST: CVS BRAND AV AFTERSHAVE
    BALM: SOAP COMMANDER RESOLUTION

What a bad shave today. The end results were smooth, but I got quite a few nicks. I also was having a hard time loading enough soap in the brush. I kept loading and loading, but it seemed like the brush was not picking up the soap, so I switched to the Fine Synthetic on the 2nd pass and had no problem at all. I will have to practice with this brush because I am used to using synthetics. The Soap Commander balm cooled my face down and is a great product. Hope everyone has a better shave than I did today!

image.jpeg Razor: Gillette Ball End Tech NDC (declared 1947) Birth Year
Brush: Vintage Ever-Ready 300L with TGN Silvertip 18/51
Mug: Old Spice (late glass Mug 02) 1964 – 1978
    Cream: TOBS Grapefruit cream
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Balm, Tommy Bahamas St. Barts cologne

The TOBS whipped up nicely with the Silvertip. The Gillette Tech is a nice mild razor for me even with a Feather blade. Very nice shave with some touchup. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some JB Balm and then some St. Barts. Nice shave! Y'all have a good one.

The Star razor and Gem blade don't like each other resulting in a not so good shave today. It was a little rough so I needed the balm which is very unusual. Oh well, live and learn. Have a great weekend folks.

Damaskeene today. Second outing with it. I kept getting some tugging and fortunately decided to change the blade before finishing the first pass. Must have been a bum blade as everything went smoothly after that. Nice shave - it lived up to its reputation. :happy036:

    Frey's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Healthy Accents Daily Renewal Cleanser, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger
Lather: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine soap
    Razor: RazoRock Bamboozled RAKE OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (1)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (1, 2)
Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's witch hazel, RazoRock One-X AS splash
Cologne: Le 3e Homme de Caron

After using a Bolzano blade for a couple of weeks now, the Bic was a noticeably sharper beast. I had ridiculously good lather from the Ginger's Garden soap to protect my face, so there was no bloodshed, but I could really feel the difference in sharpness. The alum indicated a couple of hot-spots after two passes, but no bloodshed was evident, and the results qualify as a DFS.

Just got home from vacation today, in the mailbox was @Omelmad 's creation, the famous Bay Rum AS!
Picked up a new locally available shaving soap while on vacation. Scent is very very faint, close to non-existent, but very pleasant.
Got a wonderful shave from a soap I didn't expect much from. Very excellent!
