Just thought I would share this. I was sitting at work last week at lunch with anything better to do, so I decided to draw up a Brush and Bowl. I work at a company that does 3D printing. I decided to see if I can get this printed up in Nylon. I checked with the powers to be and they were kind enough to let me get it printed when they have available space. It looks like next week sometime. The design is very simple on both the brush and bowl. On the bowl I added 6 curved ribs to try and get the lather to lather better. I am thinking getting a synthetic knot. I made it for a 24mm knot. (any suggestions?) I have now idea if it will work or not but what the heck. It is something to try. The bowl has an inside diameter of 4-1/4" and 2-3/16" deep. I have attached the images for you viewing pleasure. They will not be blue. They will be white as that is what color the material is.
That is very cool. I took Clint's advice and picked up this knot for an Olive Wood handle that I have. I just ordered it, so I haven't tried it yet. http://www.thegoldennib.com/wet-shaving/badger-hair-knots/finest-badger-knots/24mm-finest-badger-bulb-knot.html I look forward to seeing your finished brush and shaving bowl!
Cool! Can't wait to see the final version. That blue is nice. Too bad you don't have color options...yet
Very nice. Dzia Dzia likey. Love the blue. Can these be done in different colors? Or is there just a standard stock?
We only have white. But you can dye them with Rite dye. It is only on the surface so it is not that rugged
I never thought of that. I will need to reverse engineer the head design. Or find out what angles and gaps for the blade clearance. I am not a designer so it would be very utilitarian in design. I think in circles and squares. I am a from point A to point B type of person. Thanks for the idea. I will post something if I ever do it. Tom
I like how you put the curved ribs in the bowl. The one thing that changed me from bowl to face lathering is my bowl (VDH) is so smooth and small that it was like trying to build a lather in a Chinese tea cup (though I'm sure there are those in this community who could do just that.) Do let us know how this all works out for you.
Will do. I will keep you all posted. I will need to read up on how to set a knot. It seems pretty straight forward. I only face lathered until this weekend when I tried out some cream. I only used soap before. So I figured with the cream I would also try out bowl lathering. It actually worked out really well for never doing it before.
Over on the Badger they've got a thread or two on the printing of a cap for an r41. From the looks of it, they seem to have covered some distance. Those caps have apparently gotten quite refined...
Some added info. I will be using the SLS process for this time around. The material being used will be Nylon. Later on I might see if they will run it in FDM process. There I will have a larger variety of materials to choose from. Running it in SLS is easier as they can just add that to an existing build. For FDM it would most likely need to be built on its own platform. That would take away from them making money. So I really do not see that happening. If anybody wants the SLA. file for this feel free to PM me and I can e-mail it to you. tom
Got to work this morning and found a surprise. They built the Brush and Bowl. They built 2 too boot. The color is a little boring but what the heck just playing around. I will be ordering a couple of WD synthetic knots this weekend, 24mm. The brush feels nice in my hand. Will post some pictures when i glue the knots in. Tom
That is good. If I like how it works maybe a pif will be in order. I would not want to send out something that sucks. The only thing is i may have made the bowl a bit large. I will try the bowl out tomorrow. Tom
