today's shave was with a new to me razor.
I used the Grand Shave King self lubricating razor.
the previous owner had posted his thoughts about it, in this thread.
it is a vintage razor not made since like the forties. I have liked it's looks and wanted one in my collection for a while. once one came available, in my excitement,I started researching reviews.
most were not good.
so, I began thinking what to do to make this beautiful razor more than a showpiece.(all mine are useable).
heck, I don't even know how to use a shim.
some said sharp blade with mild razor. one post said duller razor works better. all this left me a bit lost.
so after long thought, I just did my thing. used my favorite, in other words, I didn't change anything. just minded my technique.
the first two passes left me full of worry, lots of stubble left.
halfway through the second pass,I lightened up on my grip, minded my angle. tried to remember all the advice I've heard and even given. then it happened, the razor started to sing.
once dialed in,I finished the last pass, cleaned up, and wow, I'm very SMOOTH. not as comfy as normal, but I think I was adding too much pressure on the beginning of the shave.
future shaves will tell the story on where this razor falls in rotation.
but I sure can see where others have had difficulty with this beautiful mild razor.
rambled enough, gotta go. y'all have a good one.
