A well crafted pipe can last the rest of your life. When shopping avoid the low end. Shoot for high middle price range, and do your homework. Rossi is made by the same guys who make Savinelli, for instance. Lots of great briar by lesser known carvers too. Lots of homework, make the purchases count!
Stokkebye Luxury Bull's Eye Flake in my Stanwell after work. I rubbed out two coins and it filled the small pipe pretty well.
Thanks. I've been looking at a Sav 320 for a long time, had to go by my BM pipe shop today and stopped. They just got this in this week...and although I paid more than I would have online, I always try to support the local guy. And it's nice to look it over and hold it, no fills at all from what I can find.
Yeah, besides supporting the local BM, it's nice to be able to feel and inspect the pipe before buying.
Some Captain Black Original in my Kriswill Danish Clipper during my ride home from work. (Don't worry I was stopped when I made this pic)
I will certainly do my homework - I'll need to save up for a while anyway. I really appreciate all the support and tips!
Stopped at an antiques store in Navasota today. I picked up a pipe stand for $10 and cleaned it up with some Formbey's Lemon Oil Furniture treatment. I planned to store opened tobacco tins in the humidor, but the neck is just a little too small for tins to fit in. There's a porous stone inset in the lid, I'm not sure what the intent is. Maybe the intent was to keep it wet so the tobacco wouldn't dry out.
That's nice; good find! And yes, that is a moisture stone. You saturate it and it keeps the tobacco from drying out. Definitely a great score. Congrats. =)
My two new pipes arrived today and I was amazed. The Royal duke looks like someone started to smoke it once and gave it up, and the Grand Duke was BRAND NEW AND UNSMOKED! Not a bad deal for $30 in my opinion. I'll post pics tomorrow. For now, I'm relaxing with a hot cup of spiced cider and some Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian in the Dr. Grabow Grand Duke; after a long, hard night of scaring people silly at a Haunted Hayride! It amazes me how a grown man will shriek when a maniacal clown with an axe just randomly appears out of the woods........lmao!
Lol, not tonight. I did smoke in between wagon loads though. We have a spot with a bonfire where all the haunters kind of congregate in between rides to warm up and talk. Probably the creepiest campfire you'd ever see, lol. Although they had me play a crazy old lady one night and I walked around with a cob pipe full of John Bull.
