The key to the stick is start with a drier brush, adding water slowly to the knot itself in small amounts. I basically just apply soap to my face until I can see it covering, then just a bit more. Never fails.
October 19, 2015 OC October - This month I'll introduce myself to OC razors. Gillette New LC Schick Type C1 OC Standard Safety Razor OC Gillette Goodwill Morning shave Hot Shower Soap: Saponificio Varesino Manna Brush: Brush: Omega 31025 Scarlatti Boar Razor: Standard Safety Razor OC (Germany) Blade: 7 o’clock (Blues) (1) TSD Witch Hazel Aftershave: TSD Acqua di Gio Three-pass shave. This was the second DE OC that I’ve tried and my initial reaction is very positive. The New LC is currently my favorite DE. The shave today resulted in a shave very similar to the New LC. The initial whisker reduction was very good. The Standard will easily allow for just a two-pass shave. The razor provides excellent feedback and the shaving angle is easily found by “riding the cap” and making minor angle adjustments from there. I’m just four hours since the shave, but the immediate result was BBS. The only negative from the shave appeared mostly when shaving ATG and around the highest concentration of whiskers. It was there where I experienced a noticeable reverberation in the blade. I’m not sure if I had the handle screwed in too tight or too loose. The bottom plate appears to have significant wear around the hole where the handle attaches. I will spend the week with this razor and switch to a new blade after 3 shaves. I’ll explore minor tweaks to see if the reverberation issue can be corrected. Play Ball! RT
OCtober 30 Day Focus -- Cadet Open Comb October 18 Razor – Cadet Open Comb Blade – Gillette Silver Blue Brush – VDH Boar Soap – Stirling Spice Post - Cold Water Splash, Witch hazel, Old Spice Had a very busy day yesterday with out of town visitation for a friend of mine's father who passed away suddenly, and then rushing back into town to get engagement pictures done. Right before heading out, I managed to get a great shave with the cadet and the GSB! I took my time because I could not afford any issues with pictures yesterday afternoon. Paid attention to all the basics--lather, blade angle, pressure, feedback--and was completely rewarded. My fiancee declared it one of the best shaves she had felt and there was absolutely no redness or irritation to be found. This combo does an absolutely amazing job with my beard. It did so well yesterday that I did not shave this morning. Figured I was still ok (though even with the great shave I still have stubble showing up, but it is more like a usual 5 O'Clock shadow and not my usual 24 hour growth) so decided I would sleep in and would shave tonight. I definitely did not want to miss a menthol Monday! I plan to scour some flea markets and antique stores this weekend looking for other open comb razors, especially the Gillette New LC based on the good things I have heard about it! Really looking forward to trying a different one just to compare.
Thanks to Vince, who sent me a tuck of Gillette Blues, I decided to add some to my apocalypse box. Ivan, or one of his comrades from the blade consortium left 100 on my doorstep this morning. They have joined my meager stock of mostly Russian Steel.
Really cool box Chris! I'm still trying to organize my den and this seems like a good idea...though my version of the apocalypse box would hold less than half of what yours does. Does that make me a positive thinker?
You have to be prepared to shave during an apocalypse. A beard just gives the zombies something else to grab onto.
The 49ers vs Seahawks has been a good game since the Hawks came to the NFC West. I expect the same thing Thursday. Go 9ers!! :rah:
October 19 Gillette New LC Feather blade (2) Kent BK4 silvertip brush Arko Two passes Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Alt Innsbruck I've used this set up since the last week of September, and I'm feeling fairly comfortable with it. If you don't have a New LC, get one! I've switched up soaps and creams along the way, and most recently, I'm starting to include some different aftershaves. Alt Innsbruck is one of my first AS purchases, and it has very pleasant scent. It stands alone without a cologne, but I decided to pair it with some Terre d’Hermès today. I think this is a classy combo. I've also tried the Fine aftershaves (Platinum and L'Orange Noir), and I plan to try the CC Bay Rum this week. As we approach the end of OCtober, I plan to swap my Kent silvertip out for a Semogue boar brush, and I also plan to swap the Gillette ball-end handle out for my Mongoose SS handle. The Arko always gives me plenty of slick and protective lather. I'm not a big fan of the scent, but I'm a huge fan of its performance. Two passes - WTG and XTG/ATG yielded a near-BBS shave with zero nicks or irritation. Sometimes I include a third pass, but not today, just because I like to shave. The Feather blade works well for me in any razor, but it does seem to smooth out on days two and three. The bronze Gun-Kote finish on the razor looks good, seems to be very durable, and it cleans easily. If you're considering this finish on any of your razors, do it! I hope you have a great week!
Razor: Gillette Red Tip (A3) 1955 Blade: Gillette Platinum (1) Brush: Fendrihen Sliver Tip Badger black Faux Ebony Handle 22/49 Bowl: Yokohama Studio Cream: Proraso Green A/S: Old Spice Fresh Lime Cuff Links: Old Spice original box Menthol Crystals (Menthol Monday) Day 19 Changed a day early as the Voskhod Teflon Coated blade wasn't performing as well as last weeks Voskhod did. Happy to do so as this combination of products always provides me with a outstanding shave. Cold and windy out so I decided on an indoor flick. Great lather, shave, and aftershave this evening. Three passes. BBS
