Wow...thanks guys. I appreciate the compliments, especially since most of you are seasoned white whale hunters. It's a nice set for a collector...we will see how well it actually shaves.
A long weekend for me and the Mrs. included the obligatory antique store shaving gear dash and I came home with a couple of mugs to add to my stock. An Early 06 that I can't find the receipt for but I remember it was less than $8 and then a Late 04 for $6.50 that came in the original box and includes an unused puck of soap. A couple of stores later I came across three more mugs (one with a puck of soap) but they were priced between $24 and $36 each so I left them for a less frugal buyer. And then I picked up a new snurdle dipper at a little kitchen specialty shop that we wandered through. The scoop is a bit on the wee side but I like the length of the handle and the smooth clean design. Then after arriving home, this little set came in the mail. I took a photo with one of my razors to give you an idea of the size of the little bottles and the little bar of soap.
Very neat finds. Love those OS mugs. I have some English Leather shaving soup en route to me that I'm looking forward to try out.
My newest acquisition Schick E2. I was looking at thrift stores and antique stores, but they were wanting $30 for them. So I found this on the Bay for $13 including shipping. It was kind of dirty looking, but It looked to have some finish on it. I also liked the fact that it can open to clean. I also liked the look of the Bakelite handle Butterscotch. So here are some before and after pictures. I will have to wait until November to try it out as I am doing OCtober. Before After. Bad lighting I could not get the gold to come out as nice as it really is.
At the same time as I bid on a small razor lot that happened to contain a small, unused AoS brush - where I mostly wanted the razor...I also put in a sub-$10 bid on a AoS brush - not quite realizing that it was the same brush. Now I have, well, two of them: I guess my friend that I bought this Stahly might get a free brush. Not very exciting but necessary for some of my new-old razor handles: a pack of Atra cartridges... Also, a really, really great smelling vintage English Leather soap. This one I will not leave un-used - it smells way too good for that....
My first Schick B razor arrived today. The razor and case are in really nice condition. I did manage to load blades through the magazine but it seems to be a bit clunky. I'll wait until my next one comes in so that I have something to compare it to. The first thing I noticed is how different the angle at which the razor needs to be held for shaving.
Some has arrived, some not. Still awaiting the blades and the MEM cream + my order from Bestshave. 1 x MEM Olive shaving cream 3 x Bestshave #6 brush 1 x Arko Adventure shaving cream 1 x RazoRock Classic shaving soap (Gift from @Omelmad) 2 x RazoRock P.160 shaving soap 1 x RazoRock XXX 1 x Proraso Green aftershave balm 1 x L'Oréal Men Expert Hydra Energetic face wash 1 x Matas Men shaving soap 1 x 100pcs Rapira Swedish Supersteel 1 x Bay Rum Aftershave Omar-style sample (Gift from @Omelmad) 1 x Saponificio Varesino Shaving Soap - Manna Di Sicilia (Trade with @Slow Joe)
Thanks. Its amazing to see these razors in such good shape considering the small moving parts. I almost had it buggered in 5 minutes......
It's been about 6-months since I bought anything and I've been wanting an Aristocrat to add to my vintage Gillette's. I started searching eBay again and came across an auction for two "Vintage Gillette Razors" which were an Aristocrat and a Red Tip Super Speed. I was surprised and very happy when I won both for $35.51 with modest shipping charges of $3.14. The Aristocrat was what I wanted but the Red Tip was an awesome bonus as I didn't have either razor and I got both for under $40! Anyway, they arrived yesterday and cleaned up beautifully so I thought I'd share a photo. Can't wait to use them..........
You have been very busy this month =) that's some nice gear. First time using the energetic face wash?
Thanks man. Yeah all too busy. I haven't even mentioned the 160 USD ingredients for my next many recipes I think this is my third bottle of Energetic. I like it very much. Smells good, lathers well and cooles nicely.
