Also, consider using large amounts cold water as a rinse before applying alum, you don't want to trap soap in the folds under the alum. Give your neck a break and just double up on WTG. Your ability to get neck BBS will just evolve as you learn the correct stretching and angles. Just remember, if your neck looks clean at a glance, that's good enough for now. There is no point chasing BBS on the neck right just because you can.
20 October 2015 30 Days with a Gillette Fat Boy This shave was versus two day growth, so I did what any reasonable cartel affiliated shaver would do. I grabbed one of Moscow's finest and opened the Fat Boy all the way to 9. Serious gap and exposure, high tension on the blade, and finely ground Teflon coated stainless proceeded to cut through it like butter. Pass two was really just clean up to get to near BBS. I did have one weeper on the mustache area, but I think it was a function of me and not the equipment. A solid shave from Voskhod. I used Proraso red today, it is sandalwood and Shea, and makes voluminous easy slick lather every time. A 15-20 load onto the Plisson made easily thre passes worth of lather. I am pretty much sold on the Fat Boy at this point. I am set on TTO! It can't get much better than this. A good day on the prairie, spent working and chasing dogs. Fall is definitely in the air! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Yeah I really like mine. It's about the simplest razor out there. Three pieces and a blade and you have a great shave. They are good with sharper blades too like Voskhod, Kai, Feather. I was checking the two Techs against each other and I'm not really sure why I prefer the ball end to the fat handle. The heads appear identical. Guess it's the balance or something.
@Joef I put my Tech head on Heavy utopia handle, and like you notice, it screwed up the balance and the pressure. I think Gillette really nailed the ball end design. It's basically an ideal three piece--cheap, simple, effective...and the most manufactured and copied razor head of all time.
You're right. Saying "reasonable" and "cartel affiliated" in the same breath is redundant and unnecessary. My bad. now edited...
October 21 Focus Shave 13 The first 3 passes went without event except for one small weeper so on to the fourth pass. I did 2/3 of the 4th pass. The alum only reacted where the small weeper was and on my chin. Almost BBS but not quite there. I am getting more comfortable with the 4th pass and finding away I can still see where I am shaving in the mirror but I still can't find a way to do the bottom of my neck ATG. Irritation A-, closeness A- all in all I am pleased with the shave and the new razor. I like to see those TSD sample sizes. It's a great way to accumulate a rotation or test group, without committing to a whole bottle. We should make sure the newest of the new have knowledge of this size AS. Also..TSA compliant and a great choice for travel, 4 AS in the volume of one normal size!
Congrats Vince! The Reverb has vanished!! I would claim something along the lines of even a blind squirrel can sometimes find the nut...but that line has already been used here.
10/21/15 Gillette NEW LC Vulfix Super Badger (660) Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #2 with the Gillette Silver Blue in my New LC. Face lather and 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG. Great reduction. Pass 2: ATG. A nice DFS at this point. A cold water rinse followed by some minor touch up and I had the baby. Aqua Velva screamed today, but quieted down in a few seconds. A very nice BBS from the Gillette Silver Blue in my New LC. I went over part of my neck a bit more than my skin liked. Didn't feel any real irritation, but it seemed I might be on the edge of it, so I stopped. The Aqua Velva confirmed that I'd been a little too aggressive, but fortunately, I stopped in time to prevent anything lasting. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
10/21/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad Helix SS Blade – Feather (3) Brush – Romera Olivewood Synthetic Lather – Mystic Water Lavender Post - Witch Hazel & Fine Platinum Another near BBS 3 pass shave this morning. The Wolfman OC is an exceptionally smooth and efficient razor. It's everything I liked about the New LC and New Deluxe but taken to the next level. Used Mystic Water Lavender shave stick this morning. I am so glad, I decided to use the soap this way. The stick has turned a soap that was a pain to lather into a true pleasure. Finished off with a splash of Fine Platinum. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
I really like that phrase, "Zen of Shaving". I've been trying to give a name to my morning routine. Thanks!
I think my razor bumps might be caused by my weak technique, a bad blade angle and too much pressure. Why didn't anyone tell me? Sheesh
30 day focus - Day 21 Fat Boy set to 9 Sputnik Blade MDC Face Lathered with a touch of TOBS ROSE 3 passes I have been using a lot of my Sputnik blades lately, mainly because they are my least favorite of the Russian blades and I am attempting to get through them so I only shave with the best blades. This is similar to the way I eat cake, the cake first and the frosting last. The Sputnik is not a bad blade, just the lesser of all the blades I have. I did get a very nice and clean shave which should hold out to be BBS.
