It wouldn't be that difficult to build a small but decent inventory of pipe tobaccos, and if they charged a reasonable price, they might find they could move a good bit and make more money than charging exorbitant prices on a few sales. Edit: if they needed some ideas on that inventory, all, they have to do is read POTD!
Kudos to @Papa Roy ! Welcome to POTD! Roll Tide from the plains of Colorado! I grew up in Huntsville, my family still lives there.
A buddy and I have kicked around the idea of a boutique store that sells either shave gear/pipes&cigars/whiskey or shave gear/P&C/guns.
No pic tonight...but I broke out the Wessex for some Custom Burley in the garage, while listening to the rain fall.
Man it would be nice to go into a store and pick of the gear you love...imagine if it was a store you could sit down get a proper shave and then sample some pipe tobacco id never leave lol
I've been doing the very same thing @Bama Samurai . Currently, I'm just looking into finding a good location and of course the financing of such an endeavor. It's a great idea. I've spent about a year so far garnering connections with shaving and pipe/tobacco makers. And I'm lucky enough that Sig Sauer is right here in NH, and a few friends have worked there for quite a while. I also want to have kinda of a club area where gents can sit around and smoke and drink (alcoholic or non), and discuss things such as the hobbies, recent fishing or hunting outings, etc. Kinda that idea of an old tyme, TRUE gentlemens club.
I wasn't thinking barber, but definitely vintage razors for sale, a tobacco lounge with an indoor smoking exemption. Mostly a thumb in the eye to nanny-state modern smoking/alcohol/gun laws. A place for men, those who remain anyway. I got the idea from a local organization that throws an "ATF" party each fall. It's a fundraiser on a private ranch that features whiskey, cigars, and target shooting with legal full-auto firearms, ergo "Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms". I think it's hilarious.
Any of you pipe smokers been tempted to pick up one of the vintage avon pipe style bottles? Just curious. I saw a ship type bottle and started looking a the myriad of types avon bottle and came across some of these. Pipes and and aftershave, huh? I wouldn't have thought about that combo. But it reminded me of this thread! Anyway thought they were worth sharing, and didn't know where else to post...
Finally putting up some pic after a long hiatus, lol. Pic one is my shipment from P&C that arrived today. Contents: -12 1.5oz Pouches of John Bull -3 3.5oz Tins of Mac Baren Vanilla Creme -2 1.750z Tins of Drew Estate: Gatsby Luxury Flake (wish Meat Pie had also been on sale) -10oz Bulk of Comoys Cask #1 -1 1.75oz Tin of Balkan Sasieni -Box of 120 Medico Pipe Filters -1 Pipe Care Kit: 2oz bottle Decatur Briar Fresh, 75 Brigham Pipe Cleaners and a Reamer tool
Here's pic number 2 of the two new Dr. Grabow's I got off of ebay, with my two favorite tobaccos. The one on the tin of Comoys is the Royal Duke Bulldog, and the one in front of the Vintage Syrian is the Grand Duke Lovatt. Bot are really beautiful pipes that smoke great.
Now I'm having a bowl of Balkan Sasieni in my Dr. Grabow Royal Duke Bulldog; with some Twinnings Wild Berry tea.
Somebody really likes Cask one! Big haul there! Also, the new Lovat is a very classy looking pipe! Enjoy!
Lol, yes I do. I like the English blends in general, but Cask 1 is really great stuff. I also got another 20% off coupon, so I may place another order with P&C in the near future. I wanna get a 1lb bag of the Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian, and there are some Hearth and Home blends that I want to try. And there's the University Series from Scotty himself that are mostly English styles with varying amounts of Latakia. Decisions decisions.... And ty. It's a really great pipe. I'm not big on straights, but thanks to the Grand Duke and the Royal Duke you sent me, some straights are growing on me. And I'm finding Dr. Grabows to be really great pipes.
I've always found Grabow to be pretty darn good. And I am really glad you are using the pipes! I still have my original Grabow, I'll post a pic soonish. I know I post a lot of briar pipes, but my Kaywoodies and Grabows have more use on them lifetime than any in my collection.
