    Razor - Gillette 1948-49 Superspeed
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
Brush - Vie Long 12601 - The Pony
    Soap - Tabac
Post - Cold Water, Alum, The Veg

A new day and a new setup. I broke in the '48-'49 Superspeed my customer included in the deal he made me to buy his old razors. I already had a '47 so getting the next edition was a bonus for my collection. The only real difference is the notched center bar. Gillette made that change beginning in July 1947 to allow for easier loading with their blade dispenser. You could hook the blade on the notch and it would fall right into place. So, even though I was using my hand, I hooked the Treet New Edge on the notch to replicate that process. Yeah, I know, sometimes I need a life.

The Treet New Edge "Super Shaving Blade" is a carbon steel blade. It's a sliver blade but you can see that blueish glow that shows it's a carbon. Seems like Treet has started a trend of using the word "new" in their blades, I suppose trying to recapture lost market or gain new market share. The Pony and Tabac provided the slick runway in fine form as always and away we go.

I was immediately impressed with the blade. Very smooth and relatively quiet for a carbon. More audible feedback than stainless but less than most other carbons I've used. And, the smoothness was pretty amazing. No hint of tug or anything else. Second and third passes were equally smooth and I could have ended after two with a DFS. The third pass produced BBS which surprised me, but a nice surprise. Excellent shave. As they suggest I left the blade in the razor, didn't wipe it down and dried the razor and it's on my desk again. We'll see what kind of longevity the blade has.

Nice surprise today in chasing the baby down and so far we're off to a great start with the New Edge. But, the finish line is two shaves away.

[Begin sappy moment] Thank you Chris for your very kind words. It has been a fun process since earlier this summer. Honestly I never would have kept at it if not for finding this site and in particular this group with the 30DC. It was the advice provided, watching other's journeys, and encouraging words from people like you, Adam, Vince and others early on that really did wonders for my shaving. I hope to try and provide the same encouragement, and maybe occasionally advice, for others. I also firmly believe the reports we all do about our shaves, our mistakes, our successes, our new skills help others in the process because I know they greatly added to mine.

I am also still learning. The time so far with the cadet has taught me a tremendous amount about the differences in razors and how each reacts. The L6 became second nature but part of that was it's forgiving nature. The cadet is becoming second nature but it is still one I have to think and remind myself about when I use it. Getting different razors to provide the same results takes the understanding of the differences in the razors and their characteristics and to me, part of the fun is figuring that out. [End sappy moment]

Thanks for the included lesson on head geometry. Always the instructor and it is much appreciated! Thanks again for your kind words and all you have done on this board!! I inspire to be a permanent newbie such as yourself. OK so the sappy moment wasn't totally finished.

Before I got into straight razor shaving, I saw a picture of a razor with beautiful ivory looking scales, and art deco style brass inlays on the scales in the shape of a grim reaper. I had to have this razor. I went to Ebay to look for one. I have owned multiple trucks I paid less for than that was selling for. I keep hoping I will luck out on one in the wild.

    OCtober Focus Day 22:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    La Toja Shave Stick
    Schick Type C1
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Brut Classic AS

After changing blades, this morning's shave was much more comfortable than yesterday's. It all went really well, and the LA Toja was great. This was my last shave of the trip, and tomorrow I will be going to the Phoenix again, as I have some new Voskhod blades to try out.

I'm glad you mentioned bubble gum scent. My wife hates that smell with a passion. Cross one soap off my list. :happy005:

What a difference a day and a shave make. As bad as yesterday's shave was todays shave was outstanding. Start with a great soap, add a excellent razor and blade combination, chase it with an amazing aftershave. Result BBS. :happy096: Have a good safe weekend everyone. :happy088::happy088::happy088:

Couldn't shave yesterday morning and knew I wouldn't have time to this morning, so I shaved last night. Just the usual one-pass CCS. Stubble is still pretty manageable some 20 hours later.
