Got a crusty 46-47 Aristocrat on the cheap. It looks to have a few miles on it. I partially got it just to see if I could clean it up some. Also people seem to recommend this as a good razor. It cleaned up ok. It was a bit sticky opening and closing. I gave it 2 30 minute hot water and Dawn with scrubs after each soak. Then ran it thru an Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner. Turned out ok. I added a few drops of mineral oil to moving parts and now it is smooth as silk. Had to give it a test run so I loaded a Gillette silver Blue blade. Very smooth razor does not feel aggressive at all. In fact very mild in my opinion. Did a standard 3 pass shave with a little touch up under my jaw and on my adams apple. Very pleased with this razor. I see why it has so many miles on it. Before after
The mailman also brought some other stuff this past week: 1) An unopened Schick repeating razor blade magazine 2) Burma shave razor with a bunch of cartrides
A week ago there was a barber that was selling off some surplus brushes that he had custom ordered from Geo F Trumper. They were all brand new in their boxes and at $22 I thought it would be fun to pick one up and try it out. Well, it arrived this week and was, indeed, very much NIB: I think it's a really neat looking brush and I like the shape of the handle a lot. What I didn't realize until I got it was that it was a pretty small brush. I guess the travel tube should have given that away Lucky for me I like smaller brushes as well... Shown here next to an SOC boar brush for scale:
LOVE that company! Its awesome. Please tell me how that WH is, i wanted to buy it a few times. Edit: WHA=WH(witch hazel) @tuxxdk
$10 today for a late 1950s OS mug in pristine shape, an ER brush and mystery puck. I'd like to say it's OS soap, and maybe it is, but the only fragrance it now has is tallowon the gamey side. I rinsed the layer of dust off the soap and it lathers very nicely, so I guess it's usable, just no fragrance (unless it's buried inside). I'm used to coming by the really old tall mugs or the newer, shorter ones. This is the first one I've found with the label opposite the mug, and I like it. Might be a keeper. Also found a DVD of George Pal's far-out WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE for $2.
Got back from Garage sales today. Found a nice Gillette slim (K1) and an English Leather manicure set. $10 total. This made my whole weekend. Two very nice razor scores this week all under $20 total The slim I only needed to give it a 30 minute soak in hot water and Dawn. Light scrub then a soak in Barbaside . after
It's the same WH I got last time. I don't know what to expect, but it works well. No ill-effects. Actually it's the only WH I can find. It's so hard to come by. And expensive when you finally find a bottle.
Sorry, late to the party. Yes that is indeed an Early Glass Mug 01 from about 1948. The Mug 02 is identical except for the ribs in the inside. Very nice. Except for the Blue/black 1985 mug it was the last Old Spice mug without ribs.
My Hattric after shave arrived early this week from Germany....Its a 250 ML Bottle for 8 Quid delivered...Yeah that's right...Half a pint of aftershave for 8 notes at my door...I like it an all.. Billy...
My frenemy the mailman brought dropped off some things this morning. 1) Two very nice Stahlys. The one in the box (left one) is near mint but the case-less one to the right is not too bad at all. I already have one (love the head on these razors) and at least one of these are earmarked to be passed on to a friend. Now I just need to decide which of the three that I have I want to keep for myself 2) A random assortment of cases, razors and stuff. This was all bought as one lot and there were only really a few things in it that I wanted. The lot contained; - A brush-box-thing. This leatherette covered, nylon brush monstrosity contained; Luckily, all the grooming items were, as described, unused. I put away the nail clipper file for later use but admittedly put the comb back in the brush-box-thing and assigned it to the junk box around. The razor was rather neat though. Not being a big fan of small travel razors it still looked interesting and I think I might try it out sometime. It even had that paper inside the head to show how unused it was. I'd say it's a small travel Tech. The J4 would make it a late 1964 model. It also has "Marcas Regs" on it that would indicate that it was made for a Spanish speaking market. - A Gold Tech case w/ silver Tech The case was a bit stained but in overall 'ok' condition Inside, was an ok looking Fat handle Tech and an unopened pack of Gillette blades - and one can always use more blades. Speaking of blades, the Tech came loaded with this blade that I don't think I've ever seen: And no, I won't use it. - And finally, a Gold Pocket Edition(?) case (Summoning @Morman Bridge to see if these pictures helps. I assume that the lack of patent numbers on the underside of the case means it's a pocket edition and not an ABC. Does the fact that it's gold colored mean that the ball-end razor that should be inside was gold as well at time of sale?) Now, I don't have a matching razor so for now this setup will have to do: (It also used to contain some bright colored handkerchiefs but they got 'stolen' by a female friend who happened to see them as I opened the box.
Picked up a Schick at the antique store today. My first non-Gillette vintage razor. I didn't want to hijack this thread with a bunch of Schick newbie questions...so I posted a thread on the Safety Razor thread...if there are any Schick experts out there.
Yes Darkbulb, since the case was gold, and it lacks the patent information, the razor that goes with it would have been a gold Ball End Old Type. That case appears to be in excellent condition. Congratulations!
Picked up a Crown and Sword 1720 in pretty decent shape. I'll be putting it through the Naniwa progression tomorrow and see how it does.
