I realize I am asking the choir if they like singing, here, but I have to anyway: Is the mongoose all that? And on singing, is it true that the mongoose does not? I.e. no or little audible feedback?
I have been using a B2 Mongoose for over 50% of my daily shaves thus far this year so I have a pretty good basis for my opinion. It is one of if not my favorite razors. The Mongoose is a very good to great razor but it is not a game changer as such. I find the shave with all but the Feather Super Pro blades very comparable to a New LC with the Mongoose being a little smoother and more comfortable. The shaves with the Super Pro blade are more aggressive and closer but not quite as smooth and forgiving. I think the Mongoose is a great razor for those looking for a modern 3 piece machined stainless steel razors. It also allows one to use the Feather Artist Club blades in a more familiar format. It does have audible feedback but not at the level of a Gem 1912. I think this is due to the blades and how rigidly they are locked down in the Mongoose. These are just my thoughts and YMMV.
Apparently the Mongoose is very popular. I put my B2 for sale on eBay yesterday and before I went to bed it was sold! So I'll be without for a few day until my replacement head gets here.
Yeah looking at sold listings on ebay the last 10 sold for; 229 175 223 152 192 197 172 260 259 176 Giving a rough average of $203 Now granted there were some that sold with an after market handle, some with two, etc but it's an indicator of what anyone could expect to get for their Mongoose should they, perish the thought, decide to sell it
Note this post from Mongoose: OLD STYLE - 5/8" Heavy Handles "If you’re interested – we have a few of the handles from the prior release of razors in inventory that you can purchase as a stand-alone item, or as an add-on (not a replacement) to your order. These handles include; - the Dub Legend (5/8” full mirror polish, no knurling - $50 add-on cost), and - Big Bomber (5/8” barber-pole knurling like the current models - $50 add-on cost). Please note, these are limited items and when they’re gone, they’re gone. As of 22-Oct, we have a few left - 4 Legends and 6 Big Bombers - pick one up today." So if you've been thinking about getting a second handle here's a chance to get some ... Ordering is done just by emailing them.
I decided that I had to get one of their 'least liked' handles... This is what the details read on my invoice: "The Most Hated Handle in Wetshaving - One of Ten Prototype Handles w/ cross-hatch knurling (discount for slight knurling flaws)" For $20 incl. shipping it's worth checking it out.... Stock photo as mine is in transit:
Yeah, will be interesting to see how it looks when it gets here....but for $20 w/ free shipping it's a reasonable gamble..
I posted mine at 11am and by 8 pm it was sold. When I priced it I factored, what I paid, plus 10% for eBay fees. Included shipping and and about 20 blades 10 feather pros and 10 Kai milds. I really expected it to sit for a few days. So a good deal overall for me and the buyer. I think if you look back that cedar furniture dude got 300+ but he's a great seller. (Cough)
I used mine with a handle off a parker 97r. Might used a super pro got a good shave with it considering it was the first time i used it. I thank my shaves with it might get better.
Please add me to the proud owner list... While I only did my first DE shave yesterday... I found a B3 & Brushed head as part of a lot of razors on CL locally, I could not pass it up! Ordered the variety pack of blades yesterday.
Welcome Member 17 - and do post what you think of it once you get the blades and get a chance to shave with it
