Advice/Thoughts on purchasing Fatboy Executive with some rust

Here a look at the date code. Pretty sure it's a D3. Does anyone know if this model had a black ring below the dial? This one seems to have a bare brass ring that originally had a nice layer of verdigris I believe it is called.

Mine is a D3 as well (1958) and it does have a black ring delow the dial.

 

Hmm...can you tell if it is black paint? Maybe I could repaint it some day if it is.

Here's my first shave with the Executive Fatboy. It was a pleasant shave with, of all things, a Derby blade! Pretty fun picking up something that looked like it was ready for the trash and seeing it restored to it former glory Thanks for the help all!

Third quarter '58, then. I believe Fat Boy's were produced from '58 (D) through '61 (G). I have a G3, and that is my birth quarter.
