OCtober 2015 - Discuss OC Safety razors

Since its still OCtober I switched from my New Standard to my bar handle SC New. What a wonderful razor. Smooth and efficient. The Gillette 7 O'clock blues are awesome blades!

Nothing new here. Love from the New SC and love for it.

I noticed our posts are getting shorter as we wind down with OCtober. Must mean everybody is getting great shaves. Just a few days left and I must say I've really enjoyed, not only the shaves but the friendship here as well.

The Col. Conk Lime Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #25 WD Synthetic brush. First pass with my Gillette Aristocrat (1947 Birth Year Razor) with a Personna Super blade followed by second pass with the Merkur 15c Open Comb razor gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Lilac Vegetal after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Relatively light stubble after yesterday's shave, still the razor found beard to reduce. One-and-a-half passes and I found myself chasing the baby. I didn't get there, but it is definitely a DFS with a single weeper where I got a bit over enthusiastic under my nose.

Second shave with the Goodwill.

The New LC is not only my favorite of these four OC razors, but it may be my favorite razor of all. The two shaves with the Goodwill have been close to the same quality, but not as smooth or automatic. Still an excellent razor thus far.

Ikon shavecraft 101
it's only half open comb.

here's a discussion topic:
some have said the open comb side of the 101 is milder than the solid bar. what do you think?
I'm not sure if I can tell a difference. but I normally start my shave with the open, finish with the bar.
for the sake of this month's focus. this razor is one of the milder ones I've used.

Another DFS from this combination, even better than what I get with my Old Type.

It astounds me that an 80-year-old piece of kit performs so well; I am in awe of the engineers who designed it. When I think about a modern cartridge razor like the Fusion or even the Dorco 7, I picture run after run of computer simulation each trying to optimize a barrage of parameters such as hair density, skin sensitivity and blade parameters. But this Goodwill and the New LC it is based on was designed using none of that. This was slide rule engineering and trial and error at its best.

This is my last SOD post for OCtober. My last shave for the month will be Saturday morning in prep for a wedding we will be attending. I will be using my birth razor, my Aristocrat. I struggled somewhat with my Gem OCMM but did manage a couple really fine shaves with that wild cat. The Gillette New SC had really given my Aristocrat a run for my best and favorite shaver. Every shave was an enjoyable, close, smooth event. I really came to appreciate it.

This is my first October here at TSD and this month has been filled with good shaves, good posts, good times, and good friends. Thanks to each and every one of you for this pleasurable month.

today I used;
Gillette New long comb/ common bar handle
I really like the look of the the bar handle. but, the truth is I feel I'm more proficient with the ball end. particularly on the s/n and against passes. the ball on the end provides me with a nice grip.
the New head always provides a nice shave.
