  1. Good observation Herm!
No, I don't think it's just you. But I'll take a closer look tonight when I put a new blade in for tomorrow's shave. You may be on to something, but it must be ever so slight because I'm not experiencing extreme problems...just the difference between a VG shave and an excellent one. Thanks!
  2. Yes it's sandalwood. It has a very good scent very similar to AOS sandalwood cream and pairs really well with the CC sandalwood AS.
  3. Check it out, I'm curious what you think. Maybe it doesn't matter or maybe you've just been lucky with the alignment. I THINK I've always had a problem with this. (Notice I said "I think"? THAT may be my problem.)
  4. I like sandalwood! Will investigate...
  5. I know about that thinking thing...usually gets me into trouble! :scared011:
  6. I leave it to the professionals...just glad to be here!;)
  7. I have found the same with straights.
  8. I agree. I'm finding that a VERY shallow angle yields my best results.
  9. Yep. 30deg is a bit steep and has universally led to irritation for me.
  10. So my shave this morning was good. Long day yesterday, two hours sleep, then back to work. Braved a two pass straight shave in my sleep deprived state and hit a DFS, with no cuts or irritation. Was pretty happy with that.
  11. I think riding the cap is a good place to start finding the correct angle for a particular razor. With a razor I have never used, I rest the cap on my face and as I begin the first stroke, drop the handle until I hear the cutting begin. Then I fine tune the angle for comfort, etc. After that I forget about riding the cap for the most part. I've found I have the best results when I don't overthink things and make them more complicated than they need to be. YMMV
  12. @Bama Samurai and others keep preaching focus on technique, technique, technique, and you will be able to shave in your sleep. Now we have proof!
  13. Razor: Gillette Flare Tip (A3) 1955
    Blade: Personna Platinum (2)
Brush: Fendrihan Silver Tip Black Handle-22/49
    Soap: KnockOut Shave Cool Blue
    A/S: Fine Platinum
    Day 28
Very good shave this evening. I've had excellent results with this brush and would list as my best store bought shaving brush. The KnockOut soap is a great, and like the shave den sops they leave enough room at the top of the container so you don't have soap all over the counter.

I love this razor but it always seems to nick me with it's spike point. Well it got me on the second pass but it was small nick. I was not sure if would attempt the fourth pass because of the spike point, who was I kidding it the shave was going well I was going for it. The fourth pass went without blood. There was a little stinging but not much. I did the ice trick and rubbed an ice cube on my face and the everything was gone.

Really hard to rate this shave, just on the edge of BBS and just on the edge of irritation.

    Irritation B+/A-, closeness A-/A.

    Proraso sensitive pre-shave

  16. You know you have arrived when you can shave with a straight in your sleep.
  17. Happy Birthday, Seth, and congrats on getting into top shape! :D

I'm on the road for work, but I enjoyed a nice, easy shave this morning with the New LC, the Semogue 830, a Feather blade on day 3, and Trumper's Coconut cream. It's always a little different shaving from a hotel room. I miss my scuttle and the warm lather. The good news is that I have the bathroom to myself and can enjoy a leisurely morning shave.

After just a few shaves, the Semogue brush is starting to break in nicely. I think it is going to be one of my favorite brushes for face lathering. It has soft tips, great backbone, and the knot is starting to develop a nice splay. I finished up as I usually do with alum, WH, unrefined shea butter, and Fine Platinum.

Life is good! I hope you all had a blessed day today!

  20. Thanks Clint. It has been a very good trip, although it came together on short notice. I'll be heading home shortly. I miss my Bride. :)
