Stokkebye luxury Navy Flake mimics the Navy flavor profile, but is not true Navy. True Navy is Escudo. Historically, sailors on British ships were issued a length of twist tobacco, usually soaked in high test rum to preserve the leaves for the sailing voyage. They would slice it into coins and rub it out for smoking, though it was also chewed. It was typically Virginia tobacco, but the addition of Perique became the norm. Escudo is both the best example of a Navy cut today, it is also the godfather of VA/Per and all that follows.
Davidoff Scottish mixture in my Lorenzo. I'm not sure what to think of the Scottish Mixture, I'll have to give it another try in a couple of days.
Oh man, sorry about the rough night. Having a pipe has a mellowing effect on me when I've had a bad time. Unfortunately, lately I just haven't had much time for a pipe. Hope to get one in tomorrow night, and Wednesday night for sure.
It does the same for me, especially when paired with a good hot beverage. Hope you can kick back and enjoy a bowl soon. I know I'd probably lose my mind if I had to go too long..........well, I'd lose something; mind went a while ago. lol
Sometimes it takes several tries with a blend to really figure it out and if you like it or not. After two or three tries, if I don't care for a particular blend, I'll stop, jar it, and come back to it in a few months or a year. Frequently being away from a blend for a while and allowing it to age some will make a difference.
My first taste of any GLP and I like it. I can't really say much about the flavor yet after only one bowl, but it seems to light and smoke easily.
One thing I noticed with the GLP - it must have more nicotine than what I've been smoking. At least I think that is what accounted for the stronger aftertaste.
The virginia Cream doesn't have many reviews on TobaccoReviews, but the ones they have really like it, http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/10121/g-l-pease-the-virginia-cream
The tin note is an artificial type cherry smell, smoking it gives a light cherry flavor but not a lot else. It's not bad, but I can't give it a glowing endorsement.
I'm not a big fan of cherry anything, but Virginia Gold Cherry isn't bad in my opinion. It's about the only cherry tobacco I've ever liked. And it's very inexpensive.
Idk if ill like it either, but when i was growing up i had a teacher who smoked a pipe when the room was empty (im sure hed be fired today) i loved how the room smelled when we came back in...it smelled strongly of cherry....id ask him what it was but hes passed
I tried 1888 Late Night in the Kriswill on my way home today and I like it. The brandy is there along with some fruit flavor.
Enjoying some H&H Old Companion in my Dr. Grabow Royal Duke Straight (Brandy). Cold and rainy here. Great night for a pipe and a hot drink.
That's what I've noticed about the very limited GLP I've tried, and reviews seem to confirm. Mr Pease digs the Vitamin N.
