My November focus is what has always been my biggest issue. Sticking with a 3 pass shave. With that I'll need to be understand the tools I'll be using, I'll be introducing two new razors this month, a Gillette Red Tip and a Gillette Ranger Tech. In order for me to be successful I'll need to learn my new tools and stay mindful of a 3 pass shave.
SOTD November 1, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Gillette Red Tip 1958 D4 Blade: Personna Lab Blue Lather: Gingers Garden Vetiver (Tallow) Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Gingers Garden OakMoss Really nice shave. The Red Tip is very easy to maneuver around. I love Gingers Garden!! Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
My Plan for the November 30-day Focus. Take a good quality photo of my SOTD set ups. Focus on shave sticks and face lathering. Use a variety of shave brushes. Using B-3 Mongoose razors with Feather Pro and Pro Super blades. Using various Schick Injectors using Twin Injector blades. By the end of the month I will. Determine my everyday blade for my Mongoose Razors. Find out which Schick injector works best with Twin Blades. Improve my face lathering technique. Determine which brushes are best for face lathering. No shave today!
Yes, me too. I was hoping maybe the Mostochlegmash gang would jump in to make one but so far nothing. And I'm pretty sure Gillette isn't interested since they don't also manufacture an AC razor. But, I continue searching.
November1, 2015 World Series - Game 5 No shave today. (Saving a multi-day growth for my first NoVember shave on Monday.) Series now at 3 games to 1 for KC. We all know the famous Yogi-ism - “It ain’t over ’til it’s over!" The last team to come back from a 3-1 deficit? The 1985 Kansas City Royals. (anyone from St. Louis ready for payback? @NCoxSTL ) In the meantime before the big game, I’ll be at church lighting a candle for the Mets. “I’ve tried ‘em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the church of baseball.” - Annie Savoy (played by Susan Sarandon) in Bull Durham (no disrespect intended.) Play Ball! RT
Well as for Ivan, that crazy you know what has been put on notice. This is going to be a very strict rule month. No room for any of his switches or other crazy ideas. No matter how much he screams in my head I will NOT use the Feather SS while standing one leg and singing the Russian national anthem.
I'm also doing the No Variation November. I will spend the month trying to figure out my Feather AC SS. Wish me luck. Today was a little bloody.
Yes, the DE's have been stored away. I may have to keep a Voskhod in my pocket to avoid depression, but they are not in play this month.
It is a beast but it also shaves amazingly well once you have it tamed! I have it tame enough not to bite everyday, so hopefully by the end of this month it's purring like a kitten.
Ah....one of my братья (brothers) for the month. Another brave soul. The fact you were able to type that and say "a little bloody" is a good sign!! No lifetime damage or loss of limbs or noses!
Interesting true story.....in 1985 I lived near KC and had for about 8 years. I was a Royals fan when they beat the Cards and loved every minute of the comeback. But I'm having a bit of difficulty being terribly happy the the baby blue gang over there right now. I'd love to see the Mets turn the tables on them and win the next three games. Light a candle for me too!
November Focus: For November, I will continue my blade evaluation and will spend most of my time with my newly acquired birth quarter super speed. I will be trying a number of blades in the razor to see which ones work best for me. However there will be some variation. To begin with, the first 3 days will be with an Astra SP my New LC. Later, when I receive the Nationwide Box Tour box, I will likely try my hand at one or two of the razors along with trying a variety of soaps and creams. Blades that have done well for me so far in other razors, and that I plan to spend more time with are: Rapira Super Stainless Gillette Silver Blue Astra Superior Platinum Lord Platinum Class I may add a couple more blades if I have time. Looking forward to hanging with all you guys. Have a great Sunday!
Aristocrat Focus Day 1: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush TSD Lanolin Pumpkin Spice Gillette Aristocrat Stirling Unscented PSB Captain's Choice Bay Rum AS So I let @Bama Samurai convince me to stick with just the Aristocrat this month. I will have to put the Schick Repeating Razors off for a bit more, by which time I should also have my Type A, so it probably fits better. I got in a good first shave with this razor this morning. My dad met a fellow wet shaver on a river cruise in France this past month and was given some blades to try. He gave me a couple, including a Personna Lab, which went in the Aristocrat. It seems to be a decent blade. I ended up with a two pass DFS and was able to get my Sunday started in a great way. Hope everyone else has a great Sunday.
11/1/15 Gillette NEW LC Vulfix Super Badger (660) Proraso Sandalwood cream Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #1 with the Astra SP in my New LC. Face lather and 2 full passes: Pass 1 XTG. Good reduction. Pass 2: ATG. Afterwards, did a small amount of touch where I could easily feel stubble. This gave me a nice DFS. A cold water rinse followed by a moderate amount touch up and I thought I had the BBS. The Aqua Velva complained a bit and it revealed some stubble as I rubbed it in, but none remained once it dried. A nice BBS shave from the Astra Superior Platinum in my New LC despite my being a little rushed. Have a super Sunday!
Well gents, I thought long and hard about trying to do no variation november, but I just can't stick with one soap for 30 days. So instead, I decided to do a 30 day focus. Day 1
Quick question for any veteran straight shavers....?? If my beard growth is not thick enough to warrant shaving everyday, do I skip until I have enough stubble to clear off? Or should I shave everyday regardless, in order to improve my muscle memory. Will shaving everyday with a straight still cause irritation?
