This brush is on the way to my house! Yep 20 blades in there with a fresh holder. Should be able to get a few shaves out of that!
Very nice. I keep looking for something like that for my first straight purchase. I looked at several today and they all had issues. Good job!
Oh no! What did I get myself into? I need to stay off eBay. I won a Vintage Grafco-Merkur 3-Piece Open Comb Safety razor from the 1930s to 1940s.....Mint condition. $43 free shipping Full disclosure I've always wanted one since @Shotwell had a couple. **seller pictures
I have a Ginger Garden soap and aftershave coming, also a soap maker from San Jose The Distinguished Goat is a full bodied and smooth blend of Guinness and Goat Milk Soap that has notes of Creamy Oatmeal, Orange Peel, Butterscotch, Nutty Almond, and Rich Vanilla. Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Tallow, Coconut Oil, Guinness, Goat Milk, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium hydroxide, Glycerin, Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Fragrance. Net Weight 4 oz. of soap in a reusable container. $13.95 plus $3.60 ish for shipping.
As German as "Grafco" sounds it was actually an American company (GRAham Field CO) According to Waits they imported brands such as Adams, Hoffritz, Meehan and Merkur - so basically they provided a curated entry into German razors for the upper echelon in the 1930's-1940's (maybe even as late as the 50's and 60's). I must admit, and I'm showing my lack of knowledge of German razors here, that had I seen this razor I would have thought it was an Adams and not a Merkur (not so much because of the looks as Adams was essentially a rebranded Merkur but because whenever I've seen these they have been described as an Adams) There may be a co-branding under the baseplate - did the seller mention anything about that? Regardless, if you do any browsing online you'll find that this is one razor that performs so well that most people who gets one...keeps it
Thanks Mr. B! I'm not a big open comb fan but this one has always caught my eye. Hopefully it'll change my opinion.
I still love the one I have kept out of the three I had. And I'm pleased to say that two other TSD members own the others I once had. All in the family! Two of the ones I had were Grafco and one was Adams. I haven't personally spotted a Meehan version or a Hoffritz either (yet) but I have a saved search on eBay for these. I love the simple Art Deco look of it and the Mercury bas-relief on the end of the handles. Nice win! Hope you enjoy it.
Would love a review, whether it smells like Hoppe's or not I could see having that little bottle out in the open in my shave den... It's really a cool retro/vintage looking bottle like the gun solvent or an old apothecary bottle.
