November 2 Feather Artist Club SS Feather Professional (2) Semogue 830 MdC scented Two passes plus touch-ups Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Fine L'Orange Noir Goals Further develop my two-pass shave technique by practicing the basics Break in and get more experience with the Semogue 830 Get more experience with MdC This evening’s shave included two mostly WTG passes and provided a DFS+ on my cheeks and an SAS on my neck. Overall, it was an improvement from last night's shave, and I'm encouraged. Focus. I took twice the time I normally take for skin prep and face lathering. 100 brush swirls on the MdC provided a significantly better lather. Focus. I proceeded slowly, but I still managed to get one small nick (lip again, ugh) and a few weepers. Focus again. I worked at the trouble spot under my nose by slowly removing the whiskers using tiny WTG strokes, re-lathering several times in the process, and I got a much better result. Even my chin is fairly smooth, although most of my weepers occurred just above my chin. My neck could be closer, but I'll give myself some time before I attempt my usual ATG strokes there. I experimented with small XTG and ATG strokes on my cheeks. The areas where I went ATG are super smooth, which goes to show what a great shave this razor is capable of giving. The alum stung again. When I regained consciousness, I finished up with cold water (felt great), witch hazel, and unrefined shea butter. I'm saving the Fine L'Orange Noir for tomorrow morning. Have a great Tuesday!
Even the Klingons used Pain Sticks. Since that is in the future, maybe they are 30-day-rule descendants.
I decided to try this thing because I heard it was the closest to shaving with a straight. I liked the idea of being able to try a straight without having to buy all of the other gear that goes with a straight. I can shave without having to hone and strop. Did I make a mistake? Who has used both and can offer a comparison?
Adam, there's a big lesson here for me. I tend to use less pressure on my neck (just wipe the lather away) with the Feather AC, and I have less problems there. I tend to use more pressure on my face in an attempt to remove all the whiskers in one pass. I'm going to try very, very light passes on my face tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for helping me see what I'm likely doing wrong.
Thanks Charlie. I do like using the Triad with the Goose. At only 2/3 the weight of the baby bomber, it changes the balance of the razor.
Nov 3 focus shave 3 Mike's has a great reputation but it has been hit and miss for me so it has been out of the rotation. It does seem do well when I travel and at my father's house it is amazing. I know it does terrible with hot scuttle so I used hot water to soak the puck and built the lather on the puck. The lather for the first pass was so-so a little to thin but with each pass the lather got better. 4 passes with my ATT H1 and new Super Iridium, this is one of my top combos so I expected greatness. The alum test revealed some light irritation and the shave was a long lasting BBS. I know this razor and blade with the right software this razor can produce BBS with zero irritation so I am a little disappointed. I think I need to spend more time building the lather so the plan tomorrow is to use a SR. Irritation A-, closeness A+ Mike's Orange, Cedarwood and Black Pepper soap Rooney butterscotch with Heritage hair. ATT H1 with Super Iridium (first shave) Spieck Glasical AS Edwin Jagger Aloe ASB Davidoff Silver Shadow
I did that more than once when I tried to learn to straight shave by starting with a Feather. I see there are several crazy people using shavettes this month so in honour of your bravery when I pick a wining soap (or just for fun) I will bring out my CJB for a shave or two. Nothing like shedding blood together to build brotherhood.
I think it will be my theme this month. Seeing im not changing my setup, i may just find a cool racer that has similarities to my type F for my avatar or photo background
No Variation November! 2 November 2015 Today was a truly nice mild 2 pass shave. The GSB on day 2 was still performing well. I had failed to discover, due to my lack of technique early on, the true potential of this head design. Mild yet efficient, I am still trying to figure out the optimal way to use it, but it's working out so far. 70F on the prairie today, didn't want the sun to go down so early! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a terrific Tuesday!
