Add me. They fixed both handles and there on the way back too me. Said they was nasty and retap them.
I shaved with my 'Goose and Pro Super blade today like I have for the past 75 years and my first pass was noticeably harsh...very harsh. Figuring I had it coming to me for something I did in elementary school, I completed my first pass. After relathering for the 2nd go, I looked at the razor head and noticed I hadn't seated the head and baseplate together properly and the entire razor head was crooked causing the blade to be completely off-center. Looking at it, I wondered how I didn't OJ myself. I probably shouldn't have tripped Jenny Crossgard on the way to lunch in the 3rd grade.
Received the "most hated" Mongoose handle this week. The quote on the invoice, from Mongoose themselves, read: ""The Most Hated Handle in Wetshaving - One of Ten Prototype Handles w/ cross-hatch knurling (discount for slight knurling flaws)" I opened up the package half-expecting to have to throw it away from sheer disgust over its ugliness - but the handle is actually not half bad. Here it is, on the right, next to my other 'goose handle: ..on the left... ...and with a Mongoose head: Now, is it a great..or even good handle? I'm not really sure. It feels ok but I feel that the knurling is way too shallow and doesn't provide the same sort of safe grip as my other handle. I'll try it out the next time I use my 'goose and see how it performs. If nothing else it's kinda fun to own a handle that was so disliked that it's now a rarity - for, granted, the wrong reason maybe
I had a Dub Slim handle with no knurling, polished, and still the razor was easy to control with no grip problems so this handle should be just fine!
Ah, maybe so! I found another one of his fine creations: I also read a really interesting post by a member on another forum that said that his arthritis made it difficult to use the standard, heavy stainless steel handle but that shifting to a Brad Sears wooden handle he is now able to use his Mongoose with much better success. His handle:
Actually it's not - just found out that it's by a guy in Russia. I'm trying to track down some contact info. If anyone is interested in a handle like that let me know and I'll share what I find out.
These handles are btw $18 each - made out of stainless steel. I'm trying to score ten of them from Russia. Another pic of the handle on a DE head:
The plan is once I can get hold of him and put in an order i'll try and get 10-15 of them shipped over here (California) and then see if there's an interest here from people. I can't see it would be hard to sell off a stainless steel handle like this one for say $25 shipped
