Well, tonight was the last night for the Haunted Hayrides, and I'm certainly gonna miss it till next year. But boy, WHAT A NIGHT! It was great, busy, busy, busy by the wagon load (literally, lol), and people were terrified and thrilled. I made one guy literally jump into his buddies lap, lol. Now I'm relaxing with some hot spiced cider and some Spectre by Lane, in my Dr. Grabow Royal Duke (1/2 bent Bulldog). Love this tobacco as an occasional treat, due to also liking cigars and this having a good amount of various cigar leaf added into. Nice Latakia blend with a bit of a different kick to it. Here's a pic of my sister and I haunting the "Old Abandoned Carnival".
Late Night in the afternoon I like this 1888 very much - easy to pack and light combined with a nice flavor. Today with some apple cider.
Light misty rain, so I picked a corncob today in case the rain picked up and I had to quit before finishing the bowl. Harvest on Hudson in early afternoon, nothing particularly special. Toasted Black Cavendish in late afternoon, this was tasty, but the rain kicked in after 1/3 of the bowl.
I had a bowl of Captain Black Dark while mulching leaves, and a neighbor stopped by and said she liked the smell of my pipe. That is a first, I did not know the scent traveled so far.
Misting rain earlier today, but fairly warm for November 1. Had another try with Peterson University Flake in perhaps my favorite pipe, a Nording rusticated half bent. Sat out on the deck under the covered portion, obviously. Doing a little online shopping and some research, so I gad a chance to take my time. Enjoyed it much better this time, partly because of taking my time, and the flakes had a chance to dry a little. While not an aromatic, I could detect a casing. Also, vitamin N was non-existent, in spite of the burley content. I've read some people say this is a nic heavy blend, but not in my experience. Pipe and tin shown with one of my favorite knives, a Case Mini-Copperlock with bone handle. This knife is also in my avatar.
Going to be warmer than normal temps (60-70) the next few days, time to finish up thing to put away from yard...so time for reliable working pipe...
After work and before dinner A nice cool smoke. This is described as a vanilla aromatic, but I didn't notice the vanilla. I should have read the reviews before opening the tin, maybe I could have convinced myself I detected the vanilla.
The Davidoff English Mixture was not what I expected, very little Latakia. As Davidoff describes it... It appears it gets some bad reviews because people don't think it has enough Latakia to be called "English Blend"
Caught a bowl of OGS in a workday Kaywoodie....looking forward to sitting down later for a more relaxed smoke.
Received a Lorenzo I bought on eBay. It looks to be in good shape, a little dark for good pictures with my iphone tonite, but here's the eBay info (I got a good price)
There is often times a great deal of misconception on what an "English Blend" is. In fact, an english blend can contai no Latakia at all. For instance, a VaPer like Viprati, is in fact an English Blend. Why? The term English Blend actually means any mixture that is pure tobacco without any casing or flavoring. This was due to the old English Tobacco Purity Laws, which made it illegal in England to produce such tobaccos; which meant that Aromatics were illegal in England! But, not in America where Aromatics were heavily prevalent. The thought was that casings and flavorings were simply used to cover up poor tobacco (something we know isn't necessarily true today.). So basically ANY blend is an "English Blend" so long as it's pure tobacco without any flavorings. And Aromatics and tobaccos with casings and flavorings are thus termed "American Blends".
Humidor Counter Pipe H&H Anniversary Kake This is a tobacco blend of various red VA and perique. I don't detect casing or top note, and this blend is cross cut flakes, and very cool burning. Typical VaPer flavors. Note: natural smooth pipe for a change!
Interesting smoke tonight...ive been enjoying the nat 509 and orlik golden sliced so much lately that i decided to mix em together....i thought it was fantastic the sweet of the 509 and the mellow full drawof the golden slice went wel together....anyone else successfully mix any of your tins?
Molto Dolce in Hardcastle This stuff really is tasty! I should have dried it out more, since I needed to relight a few times. I like the snap crackle and pop! Very easy smoking with no tongue burn. I traded for the pipe and the generous gent tossed in a ton of samples!
Thanks...good old iPhone 5......I also mixed some CH with some five brothers...if that combo doesn't get me of the cigs/cigarillos nothing will!
