  8. Back from the in-laws.

Everything is pretty self explanatory. My only two questions now are about the Gillette Techmatic and the Schick adjustable. From the looks of my research, the Gillette uses a cartridge that is replaced when the "blade" is used up. It's a band of metal that it turned to the next unused spot, 5 times, then replaced. Like a typewriter ribbon.... And the Schick has an extra slide/button on the underside that my other Schick adjustable doesn't have. ?? Any ideas on these two?

  10. How about something a little different today? A Durham Duplex in fantastic condition. Most I have seen and considered had some rust issues, but this baby is pristine. Came with original blades. However, I acquired some new ones from Personna through tryablade.com to have a go with at some point. Interesting razor that should be fun to try.

  11. Unlike a typewriter ribbon, the steel used in the techmatic's rolls wants to return to it's curved shape, and never really flattens out. This tends to have a detrimental effect on the shave.

  12. Well, I remember my father bought a techmatic back in 1969 and he hated it. He would say the shave was not as good as his old Gillette adjustable. He had a slim and a fatboy. I used to play around with the techmatic and wind the ribbon on him. I was always in trouble.

Just so you know, I do want to acquire one so I can see what the fuss was about. You are lucky.

  16. Picked this up at the local animal shelter resale store. My first shaving related find 'in the wild' so I overpaid some at $10.

I'm going to put a chunk of Arko in it.
  17. you could fill it with chicken noodle soup, then use the one side to strain the broth out.

  18. WIN_20151106_172435.JPG Its not very clean on the inside. Rust stains from ground water is my guess but I'm not putting anything shave or food related in it till I clean it out really well. It was marked as a mustache mug along with 3 mustache mugs. Since I don't have a mustache I left those for someone else.
  19. it's definitely shave related but I could never wrap my head around the use or necessity of them. maybe from a time before running water.
  20. That was my thought. I straight shave in the bedroom away from kids so I'll use it in there. I wish I had some MWF to go it it but my sample is nearly gone. I'll pick up more later, for now Its getting a chunk of Arko.
