Nice! Good looking pipe brother! I see a lotta good things about the Molto Dolce. I'm not big on aromatics anymore really; but I may have to break down and try a tin. Sounds like good stuff.
Having some Villiger 1888 Early Day in my Dr. Grabow Grand Duke (Lovatt); with a hot cup of black hazelnut coffee. Just had a great shave (with HTGAM Cavendish soap no less); and now getting ready to go take a look at a building to move my shop to. So far, a good day. =)
Davidoff Flake Medallions in a Weber Golden Walnut. 3 flakes for the Weber, which has a large bowl and a good 1.5 hour smoke. The Flake Medallions is a nice VaPer.
You sure did get a good price! Lorenzo's aren't the most expensive pipes around, but I thought I got my Lorenzo estate pipe for a bargain at $50!
I could not wait to try out my new Meerschaum, so I loaded up some Molto Dolce on the way to work. This pipe is such a smoothy! Easy and cool throughout, no bite or even significant heat on the bowl the whole time. I traded for this pipe, and I'm glad I did.
A good meerschaum is a treat. Handling by the stem will prevent skin oils from darkening the bowl unevenly! Nice pipe!
Definitely true. However, after holding my meerschaum by the stem for some time, the coloration was still advancing slowly. So I finally said what the heck, I would rather enjoy my meerschaum more by holding the bowl with my hand and not worry about the color! Some people really value that even coloration to the point of wearing cotton gloves to make sure no skin oils touch the bowl. On the other hand, I know a couple of people that smoke meerscaums exclusively, and they hold them with the bare hand from day one! It all depends on what one wants.
That's one of the things I really enjoy about this thread, is the exposure to pipes and blends I would never glance at otherwise. Everyone develops their own style as time passes.
It is the Lakeland style like Gawith (not my fave, lots of work), and nothing like Danish Flakes at all. It's fermented straight Virginia. And it needs more time.
Ahhhh, kk. Ty for the info. I had been looking at it contemplating trying it, but I'm not a fan of lakeland flake. Glad I asked before ordering a tin. lol
Since I got it used it has some color already, and it will be cool watch it develop more. So far I've mostly just smoked it like any other pipe, and I'm happy with it. Cool and smooth.
I really enjoy smoking VA out of it. Call me nuts, but it deepens the flavor versus a wider bowl. Wider bowls seem more suited to Burley, at least in my practice. Have you smoked more University Flake?
I am so excited to have discovered Orlik! It reminds me more of my beloved and long gone Troost Slices than anything else I've ever found.
Welcome to pipe thread! Many of us like OGS very much. It's my personal go to flake. Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake in bulk is also very similar.
