Your Pipe of The Day.

Had a great smoke but i was craving some wine with it...anyone come across a good pairing with pipe

 

Back in the day, Bourbon on the rocks paired well with.... everything. These days I stick to coffee or Iced tea.

 

I bet it would, but the older i get the less i can hang with the hard stuff...gotta stick to beer and wine mostly lol

 

A nice Cabernet franc heavy blend would probably work. If your more adventurous a pinotage would be interesting...

 

Heck, if you can find a big constructed sparkling chardanay I'd willing to lay money it would work with a lighter smoke.

Being fall a dry cider like Crispin or Cidre could be a option too.

 

More thoughts.

You have two choices, go light and use the beverage to refresh your palate while smoking. The dry cider will do this, and is not too expensive. The second option is to go big. Think of the cup of fog lifter approach.

The problem with wine is going big is expensive. Many would say that your going to miss some notes if your smoking anytime near drinking a constructed red. So, the quandary is: do you have the disposable income to a big wine? I'd strongly suggest having a glass of any $20+ of wine prior to enjoying a pipe. Then you can see what the effects are for your palate.

If your a beer drinker, see if you can find a small batch porter or stout. A warm glass of fine stout goes well this time of year. Barley wine is another option. If your a hop head, dogfish 90 is a nice sipping IPA.

Hey folks, please excuse a momentary thread jacking but I just haven't found anything closer than this right here to a pipe smoking community. Can anyone recommend a pipe repair place? Primarily bit replacement. I have a bunch of older pipes that need new ones.

No, I traded a shaving brush for a bunch of samples, a Hardcastle Billiard and a cob pipe.
He sent me all kinds of aromatics and I've liked them all so far, even though Molto Dolce is kind of oily.

 

Really?! Last supposedly reputable place I went to in Denver (Glendale) tried to convince me really hard that rather than fixing mine, I should buy new ones. Sounds like a trip to Denver might be in order. Do you live in the area?

 

I know that store in Glendale. Avoid it myself. And yes, I am near Brighton.

 

Care to make it a road trip? I'd be coming from Fort Collins. We can talk pipes and shaving!

 

I am a bit too busy this weekend, but would probably do that in the near future.

 

Oh I can't this weekend either. This week though would work well as I'll be off work entirely. (Not that work would stop me.)

My wife's is the wine drinker I prefer a good rum. Our gracious host entitled me to the wine. I just run with it.
I quit pipes and cigars about a year ago. My grandson is with me to much to take the time to enjoy either. In short, pipe and Guinness stout. Cigar and port wine or good rum. Sorry I can't help more.
