I've never heard the Feather described that way but, I can see your point. But, paired up with a mild razor it can also offer up a fantastic shave that requires angle focus as well. You've really picked up on the technique issues well....and fast! Keep working with the various combinations of setups and you'll never get bored as you continue to learn what blade works best with what razor and.....if you have an imperfect setup how to adjust to still get a great shave!
its so comforting to know you all have my back no matter what! what would I do without you guys? Brothers for sure! (cue Mr. Chick and the 30 DC group hug!)
Pandora! Don't go there I try to avoid that zone as well - I know what's going to happen. And even I, after just 6 months of traditional shaving, have horded far to much stuff. It all began when I joined these shady shaving forums ... they dragged me into it ... couldn't resist ... I decided not to buy anything new for the rest of this year at least.
Well yes there are some forums that take great pride in enabling members to over buy and hoard and all of those evil things. That's why you need to just hang out with us. We would never lead you down the wrong path. You can trust us.
Nov 9 Focus shave 9 Next up is Knize Ten, I love Knize Ten and so I love the way this soap smells. It is not as strong as the EDT but nice. I paid a lot for this soap so I worked liked it owed me money. The lather was thick, slick and smelled great. I used my scuttle and it was hot, so hot lather too. I have not used my Cobra in a long time so it came out of to play. On the 3rd pass it felt a little rough but I forged on and did 4 passes. I had a weeper and the alum also stung a little bit. The shave was the BBS but not the long lasting variety. I am not sure if it was the razor, the blade or the soap. I really want this one to be winner. Tomorrow the 2011 R41 will put this soap to a true test but just with warm and not hot lather. That might of affected the shave, only a few soaps and creams can stand up to such high heat. Irritation B+, closeness A Knize 10 soap Simpson Duke 3 Best Badger Cobra Classic Derby (vintage) AS Speick ASB Guerlain Derby
I also get so-so shaves from mild razors. Either I don't mow down any whiskers or the get ripped out.
Aristocrat Focus Day 9: Homemade PS Oil Frank Shaving Pur-Tech Brush Mitchell's Wool Fat Gillette Aristocrat Stirling Unscented PSB Captain's Choice Bay Rum AS I had a great shave this morning. I rode the cap to Smoothsville and avoided irritation along the way. I did keep myself to two passes, which is working out well for me, and capped it off with the Captain. Today is my only day of work this week, so it is a great Monday!
11/9/15 Gillette Super Speed Y3 Vulfix Super Badger (660) Van Der Hagen soap Pinaud Clubman Original Shave #2 with the second Gillette Silver Blue in my Birth Quarter Super Speed. First shave with VDH soap since June. I placed a few drops of water on the puck, then worked the lather in the container until I had a good amount on the brush. Face lather. Did 1 pass XTG. Very nice reduction. Instead of doing a second pass, I used the lather remaining on my face and neck to do a small amount of touch up where I could easily feel stubble. That almost gave me a nice DFS. Did a cold water rinse followed by moderate amount of touch up and wound up with the BBS. The Pinaud Clubman was mild. A nice comfortable one pass BBS from the Gillette Silver Blue in my Birth Quarter Super Speed. It felt like the lather wasn't as slick as the Proraso cream. Perhaps I didn't use enough water. I had no irritation or bleeding, and wound up with the BBS, so I'm happy. Have a great Monday!
11/09/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad Ti Aristocrat Blade – Feather (2) Brush – Rudy Vey with Shavemac Finest Lather – Strop Shoppe Baker Street Post - Witch Hazel & Myrsol F/Extra My first time having a great lather with the SS Baker Street from a shave stick really set the stage for a fantastic shave this morning. A 3 pass shave with touch ups around my chin provided a BBS shave. I did get one small weeper to the left of my lips. I would rate the shave as an A to A+ and the irritation an A- with the weeper. Finished off with some Myrsol F/Extra and I am ready for the day. Hope everyone has a great Monday.
Well - I am weak. Call the boys on me, because I strayed from the right path. I tried to resist ... I really did ... but then there was this shipment from Stirling, and the soap samples smelled so good, and the brush was so soft ... so I finally gave in. I HAD to try the Kong and one of the Stirling soaps, just to silence that voice in my head. But at least I sticked to the old razor and blades. So my shave today was: - Stirling Glastonbury - Stirling Synthetic Brush - Mühle R89 - Gillette Silver Blue (#7) - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser Man, what a brush. Feels as If I'd rub a large, soft pillow against my face. And it produced huge amounts of slick lather from that Stirling soap. Great smell as well, a little earthy, a little herbal - very nice mixture. The usual two passes WTG and X/AGT gave me a CCS today, I'd say, Not quite as good as the last shave. Irritation-wise it was an A though. The soap and my skin seem to get along quite well. I promise I'll switch back to the original setup tomorrow. The voice already started to fade away. Don't judge me!
Chris, I have two Plissons and I love them, but I will say the Plissoft out does the Plisson, it has more fibers in it, and more backbone. But I still love my Plisson
No Vince, I've been at this for over three years, I would consider myself a pretty big spender, I'm not bragging guys just being honest, I hope someone can learn from my mistakes. You don't need 30 razors, 100+ soaps, creams, what changed everything was coming to this thread. Me using my Mongoose for over a month turned on the light bulb, it also improved my technique drastically. I could never get a shave with a Gillette Super Speed, now I love them! Early on my mindset was the more aggressive the better shave, wrong! I got rid of my R41, didn't need it. I'm an aftershave junkie! I like to smell good, I have plenty to last a long time. To quote Chris " technique trumps tools" so so true. K
I love GG products! Great looking lather! I unscrew the lid seems to give me more room. I have the OakMoss aftershave, fantastic!!
