I'm still smoking the Sutliff and I'm already contemplating a bowl of H&H Old Companion. Is that bad? lol
Nah. Carry on. I can't decide to keep smoking down my open stock, or do I crack a tin or get some bulk out? I been puffing since noon. Just me and my wife and the dogs...waiting on a blizzard.
I was smoking burley today too. My custom burley is really similar to Old Companion. Some times a good old 1950's American tobacco mixture is a pleasure.
I like the old companion. It has that nice nuttiness from Burley and the Red Va. really enhances it. I'm going to grab some C&D Crooner in my next P&C order. Cube cut Burley with Deer Tongue added; sounds interesting. I figure if Bing Crosbey Liked it, it must be good. lol
I'm always so jealous of this thread. SWMBO isn't a fan. She comes from a long line of ladies who worry too much about everything.
I certainly understand, you always have to take the ladies into consideration. I don't want to pry into a personal situation, so if you don't want to answer this I understand. If it's the prospect of the smell of pipe tobacco smoke lingering in the house, you could offer to smoke outside. That's what I do, and sometimes in our basement. My wife wouldn't say much if I did smoke in the house, but I know she would rather I not, especially since I typically smoke non-aromatics.
I really like that pipe! The smooth finish on top of the rusticated bowl is a nice contrast. Likewise, the light lucite stem is a nice contrast to the dark bowl.
Absent other risk factors... Peer reviewed insurance studies... Pipe smokers live longer than average.
I read that somewhere too. That logic didn't get me far. Sweet! I'm intrigued by what I've read on VaPers. And Virginias in general.
It's kind of strange in a way that some pipes require a longer and considered break-in, while others seem perfectly fine from the first bowl without much if any regard to proper break-in. And it doesn't seem related to price or quality of the briar or engineering of the pipe. Tony
You could try sighting newer studies, lol. For instance, cigarettes have over 97 chemicals in them. Pipe tobacco, just 3! And all naturally produced during combustion. Also, ALL humans have a 5% chance of getting cancer, period. Eat meat? Jumps up t0 6-7%. I'm unsure how much pipe smoking ups it, but it's probably not as bad as one would think, especially given the big anti tobacco campaign. But either way, you're already naturally pre disposed to cancer. And after all, the act of breathing even kills you. You just slowly oxidize. Where's the fun in that?! May as well spice it up a bit. lol
VA is my favorite tobacco. VaPer is my fave blend. But, just for fun... The @trey06dmd Pipe O' the Night... Wessex Standard Saddle Bit Wessex Burley Slices
