Exactly! I have several Schick injectors, a fat handle tech (courtesy of @JR Reyes and the Nationwide Tour Box), and my '58 Executive adjustable to give a spin (sounds like some future foci for me). I have sworn off ebay for razors for at least 6 months and will only buy them in the wild if they are a deal too good to pass up! I plan to spend some time finding and trying some new soaps and aftershaves since those can always be mixed and matched and will eventually be replenished any way (at least that is what I tell myself).
Thanks Clint, my face burned for about an hour and a half, then quieted down. It was feeling ok until I put some lotion on it a few minutes ago. It seems I woke up whatever was there for another burn fest. But it was pretty mild and is already fading. I'm leaning toward the idea that it was a chemical reaction to one of the oils in the soap. I think my irritation may have been worse because of all of the brush painting / slapping. I may try some test lathers this weekend. Not sure I will put the Lime back on my face at this point, but I do like what I've read about the Mystic Water soaps, so there is likely to be one in my future.
Having a reaction to something in the soap is not fun. I tried PAA Sandalwood and it set may face on fire. Worst experience I have ever had shaving.
Thanks JR, I will try lathering in a bowl to see if I can get better results. I thought about using my synthetic, but I didn't want to introduce more variables into the picture. Maybe I should have thrown caution to the wind and used my scuttle and the synthetic. If I had, I would know if it was a chemical reaction or just my face complaining that I had beaten it raw. Yeah, it took far too long. It was getting to the point where it was no fun. I stuck with it so long that I condemned myself to bumper to bumper traffic most of the way to work. From what I read, if you add water too quickly, its hard to recover, so I went too slow and worked my face too much. I'm sure that once I figure it out, it will be easier in the future. I thought about the WSO soap and had planned to try it. I tried to read a little bit about it and found that their website had expired. I didn't see where I could buy more, so thought I'd just focus on the ones that are still available. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Are their soaps still available?
Day 17 - 17 November 2015 No Variation November! Utopia 3-piece Gillette Silver Blue (17!!) L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Proraso Red Alum TSD ISZ AS Splash under the Veg Amazingly, a super nice two pass shave on Day 17 of the GSB. This month has really allowed me to dial in this razor quickly. It's going so well, I may be a little bored...but the rule must go on! ISZ and Veg capped off a DFS. Thawing out after a very windy blizzard. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
My fiance's dentist had all his appointments changed because he went to Colorado and got snowed in. Was it really that bad or is he just using up his vacation time?
I plan to pass on the sample so others can enjoy it. If for some reason I try it this weekend and it doesn't bother me, I may save a small amount for more fun, but the majority is headed to you DDuckyMark! Thanks DDuckyMark! I'm sure my face will be fine in the morning - at least for a bowl lather shave. The Mystic Water soaps have too good a reputation to not give them a fair trial. I guess I've been spoiled by my Proraso cream. Although, from seeing all of the pictures of the massive mountains of MW lather, it may be I never learned to make a good lather to begin with. It could be, this is a neglected skill in my repertoire. I'll have to spend some time trying to figure that out. I like the clean lime scent. It is more pronounced in the jar than once it's lathered.
WSO is great stuff. I think ChuckF has one for sale in the classifieds rigjt now Zaro scent. Jim at wetshaveobsession might still be making stuff, but you would have to message or email him.
I love Lime scent, before this month started I was scrimping on my sample of T&H west indian lime cream just to keep it around longer. I was putting a tiny dab in my mug and lathering it with Proraso white so I had enough soap to lather and the yummy lime smell. I'm going to have trouble with the box. I know I'll want to try everything and keep near all of it. I'll be taking pictures and making wishlists during my time with it.
That's what I'm leaning toward also. I kinda think the abuse I gave my face this morning may have prepped it to receive more of that oil than it might have otherwise.
Trying the stuff is what it's all about. Expand your shave experience. Get a feel for what works for you and narrow down your favorites. I'm sure something in there will knock your socks off...lol
If you do a test lather, try it on the inside of your forearm. Your will know it was the soap if your arm reacts
