I wanted to give it a try or two before I replace it. After a cleaning with Scrubbing Bubbles and a dunk in warm water with some borax then alcohol. (Yeah, I'm a germaphobe ) It lathered well and had great flow through but it just seemed thin. Not a densely filled knot.
It seems nearly new though. It was being sold as new , but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.
If I wasn't used to bigger fuller knots it would be great a great shaver.
I have an Ever-Ready 150 that is in great shape as well. Also supposed to be new. The knot is similar, just packed a little fuller and softer .
I'm still not proficient enough to tell what kind of hair the brushes are. So I can't comment if they are boar, badger or what kind of badger.
I will be restoring a dozen or so brushes. I will start with the ones in the worst condition. Here is a picture of the Ever-Ready 150.

    NOVember - NO Variation

    November 17

Razor - Feather SS AC Pain Stick
    Blade - [IMG] (7)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea

Tuesday is meeting day in my world and the only thing I despise more than meetings is conference calls, of which I have two every day. So having a meeting every Tuesday just grinds my gears. But, up a bit early this morning, into the shower early and going to try and chill out with a dangerously sharp instrument in my hand. BoSFat sets it up and I started my 17th day of No Variation with a nice downstroke on the right cheek. Finished the first pass, reveled in the great lather for the second pass and settled in for a very smooth and comfortable pass while contemplating a lot of things that had nothing to do with shaving. Didn't ignore the blade but for once it wasn't the only thing I was focused on. And, after a few touch ups to finish I found myself in possession of a baby. Well, ok, maybe not by every standard, but by far the best shave the Feather SS or CJB has ever given me. Amazing. If it wasn't BBS it was DFS+++. So, did I just butcher myself without bleeding? Alum says no. Very mild reaction. What?!?! Apparently my zen tendencies this morning actually helped me get in the zone and just shave like a maniac with this setup. Now THAT'S a nice surprise to a morning with a hated meeting.

I think the most important lesson so far this month really is that practice and repetition do lead to that "shaving zen" that is necessary for the best shaves. Now, I will probably end up slicing off part of my nose and an ear tomorrow, so I'm not about to go overboard on self-admiration. Just nice to know that even with a sharp and unforgiving razor like this one you can get that near perfect shave.

Or, maybe it was just the extra humidity from the inches of rain that have piled up the past two days.

Hope your Tuesday was great! And meetingless!!!

    RazoRock Black Mamba
    Feather #1
El Druida Black & Red Barberia
    Al’s Shaving Sapone’ da Barba
Alum, Witch Hazel +Menthol, Al’s Shaving After Shave Balm
    Fine American Blend

Today's shave was an outstanding 2-pass near BBS. The secret of the Black Mamba was revealed over on TSN. There are two shaving angles with this baby. I rode the cap to the normal cutting angle suggested by the head of the razor for the first WTG/XGT pass. I flattened the shaving angle close to parallel for the second XGT/AGT pass. The result was the closest shave yet using the Black Mamba. Al's Soap is a top performer with an excellent super slick lather. Al's ASB is a soothing moisturizer, love the floral barbershop scent. Finished a little later with a dousing of Fine's American Blend. Wow, my face is singing. I'm ready for the Rest Of The Story.

    Hello folks, today's SOTD as follows;

    1948/49 Gillette Super Speed.
    1956 Gillette Blue Blade.
    Kent BLK2 Badger hair brush.
    Proraso Red shaving soap.
    Captains Choice Sandalwood AS Splash.
    Nivea AS Balm.
    360 Red cologne.

On two days growth, this old Super Speed gave me a Two Pass DFS. It does not surprise me these razors were the backbone of Gillette's offerings at the time it was made. They are ICONic. Here's the photo-
