Thank you, Charlie!!! It is so funny you should add a picture of the pain stick, as I've been following along your SOTD and Neal's I keep asking myself, self could you use one of those? The answer is always the same thing every time. No.
Kerry, if you're already talking to yourself, you would be a perfect candidate for the pain stick. Hallucinations, visions of grandeur, and the like will soon follow. I always enjoy seeing the aftershave selection in your SOTD posts. You've inspired me to try a few new ones. A good AS adds a whole new dimension to a great shave. I'm thinking about the Myrsol, but I'll hold off for now. Like you, I've got a large inventory, and it's fun just to enjoy what I have. You haven't said much about you knee lately. I hope that means you are pain-free. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for asking, unfortunately my knee hurts all the time. The only solution is a total knee replacement and I'm working on getting down to the prescribed weight. I'm cornbread fed so it's an uphill battle. I'm working with a dietician, my doctor and I have a counselor that checks in on me via telephone every two weeks. <-----
I hope you find some relief for the pain. I will say acupuncture has been a huge help for my back pain over the last month. The long term solution for me also is surgery. I'm just try to postpone it as long as possible.
Thanks, Clint! I've done acupuncture before with no relief. I had a cortisone shot in my knee not long ago and that helped for a couple of days, I'll do it again in February. I have a knee of a 90 year old, bone on bone. The kicker is my "good knee" left is now starting to ache.
So true, and I am certainly paying the price for a misspent youth. I do hope you get some relief in the short run at least.
Very well said. I sure don't mean to dissuade anyone. I love the fact that it's a 3 piece design. I would have liked to see the head/top cap smaller to mirror the size of the blade it holds. Sometimes I would get a suction feel from the razor head being against my face and that would be a sign to me to adjust my angle. I look forward to hearing how the others here get along with it.
It is a big razor for sure. I too wish the head had been designed smaller. The build quality is very good though and should last a lifetime.
Bill, I enjoy your descriptive posts. Great set up today. You definitely had some lather in the lavatory! In fact, I think you have a lust for lather!
Thanks, Kerry! I owe what little skill I have in lathering to the assistance of Clint and JR and others that have posted instructions and guidance on building a lather from a hard soap. Trade Winds isn't a hard soap, but the approach worked with it anyway. Yes, bring out your scuttle! In the past I used the hottest water out of the tap I could. But I read somewhere that might not be good for the knot and it might cause the lather to break down faster, so just before I add the brush to the scuttle I bring it down to just warm. The water in the sink and in the outside chamber of the scuttle is still really hot though. Everything cools while I shower and when I apply my lather it is just a little warmer than my skin. Feels nice!
Thanks Clint! I appreciate your help in bringing me along! The Trade Winds scent is a little hard for me to describe. It appears to me to be a very faint clean smell once it is lathered. It is supposed to remind you of the ocean with a hint of cucumber, mint, and Old Spice. I don't have any Old Spice so I can't be sure, but I'm guessing what I'm smelling when I first crack the jar is primarily Old Spice with a slight touch of mint. It is pleasant, but kind of elusive. I absolutely love the graphics, but the scent doesn't wow me and I can hardly tell it has any while I'm lathering or shaving. I hope that helps.
Thanks Charlie! I guess at this point I can only produce two types of lather: thin and anemic or overwhelmingly abundant. As I go along, I hope to keep the lather rich but not have so much that it is hard to move around in the scuttle.
Outstanding! Our bothers in shaving have been very helpful to me too. The newer artisan soaps are much easier to lather now, and if you factor in the new generation of synthetic fiber brushes it makes for a perfect pile of lather. The only issue I have with my Georgetown scuttle is the space it takes, but I think I can work around it. You'd be hard pressed to beat a nice warm lather early in the morning.
Bill, do you have the matching aftershave? I have CF Sherlock soap which was kindly PIF to me by @theFAT98 i love this scent, I added the aftershave (because I'm an aftershave junkie ) and it all came together nicely. CF has a Etsy site.
