I just received mine. Here are the pictures. I will not be using it until December, but it looks like a very fine razor. Excellent finish and fit. Nice heft and grip. Too bad it is still NoVember.
I received mine, and amazingly it looks almost identical to my RazoRock Mission. The length of both are the same the handle on the DF91 is ~1.5 mm larger in diameter. The knurling on the DF91 is not quite as "crisp" as that of the Missions, however, it is very well done. The plating on both are the same quality, which is very good. Al in all a very nice razor at the proce point and an excellent "bang-for-the -buck" razor. Just received mine, the finish is gorgeous, I'm not sure how I will like the head. I have a Parker 71R that's the same general design but I don't care for the Parker. The knurling was smooth, the boxing could've been better. My only pre shave complaint is, it is really difficult to screw my head on. When I took it out of the box the head was on loosely, and I don't know if it got shook around and damaged the threads or what. But when I'm about 4 turns from tight, it's like I'm hitting tight spots. Oh well, if anything it'll make a good starter kit for a PIF!
Yeah, the box was a piece of junk. The handle on mine was also loose. I wondered about that, but mine tightened up with no problem; very smoothly. I will at least do a couple of shaves with it in December. It looks like it would make an excellent starter razor for a newbie.
hopefully it's not cross threaded... Was there any movement or chatter once it was tightened all of the way?
i received mine today and am due for a shave tonight. i'm not sure that i'm gonna get there, though ... maybe in the morning. more as i have it ...
No, once it's tight, it's on there. And it's smooth up until those last couple turns. It's either a factory thread defect, or possibly travel damages.
It's more of annoyance than anything, I don't believe it will affect the shave, but it's just off putting after using nicer razors.
I did part of a first pass today with it. It was pretty nice, but I lost interest and switched it out. I'm convinced that it's good enough to be gifted without turning my friend into an enemy so I'm very happy about that.
Okay kids; here's part two. The shave. Built up a lather with Stirling soap, loaded up an Astra and completed the first pass WTG. No surprises. Pass #2 XTG, again no surprises. The razor is very intuitive and easy to dial in the angle. Perhaps this is due to the familiar design. The third pass, ATG finished up, no weepers, nicks, irritation. I don't see myself spending a huge amount of $ on a razor. So IMO, this is a great razor that'll get the job done without breaking the bank.
Just received mine a few hours ago. Agree with the sentiments here, horrible packaging, great fit and finish, good heft to the handle, nice knurling, but could have a bit more "bite" to the handle, very shiny! Mine also shipped with the head partially unscrewed. I would stop doing that if I were DeFitch. It makes for a sloppy looking product when you first pull it out of the box. Will shave with it next time out. I think it'll be pretty close to the Merkur and EJ razors with the similar style head, looks pretty generic to me.
OK so... I changed too many other things. I can't really tell from my first shave what to attribute to the DF91, but it sure didn't detract as far as I can tell. I really like the overall feel and heft. I can see why this general type of razor is so often recommended for the beginner. It seemed like it made it so there was very little danger of getting into trouble. I'd have to say I think it may be milder than any other I own, but I don't see that as necessarily a bad thing. It might be if I were after a BBS with just one pass. But the point is I was at BBS after my usual routine of 3+ passes. So that being the case, do I really care how much gets removed in the first pass? I don't. I'm impressed enough with the DeFitch that I'm going to go back and incorporate it into what had been my routine until now. I'm intrigued enough now to explore it a little further. But I can tell you this so far: If I had to have the DeFitch DF91 as my only razor, I think I could live with that without suffering too much. Not bad at all for a sub-$20 razor!
