Had an excellent Monday shave, two quick passes with a new blade and I paid the reaper with a weeper or two. The end result was near BBS but too close in spots. Closeness: A, Irritation: A-. Added Gold Bond Menthol Lotion for some extra cooling along with the whipped shea butter and I’m good to go. Finished with Krampert’s Frostbite Aftershave, nice and cool with excellent skin care. Have a good week everyone!

Went back to my G3 today as it had been months since I shaved with it. I put in a new Personna blade as my last shave wasn't the greatest. What a difference a different blade and some months of technique refining make. Grade A shave all the way around. :happy088:

I'm really loving this soap. Can't remember the last time I used a soap three times in four days. The M&F tips look very white when the brush is dry. It is marked Blonde Badger but shows the characteristics of Lee's Finest. I simply asked for this handle style and he chose the size and knot. One of my very favorite brushes.

    Razor - Durham Duplex Folding
Blade - [IMG]Brush -Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post - Cold Water, Alum, The Veg

Final shave for November and I'm finishing on the second day of the Durham Duplex. Only change in setup is the soap. Went to the Fat and kept the Wolf Whiskers brush in. A fantastic load and lather from the Silvertip, enough to name this combo too. FatWolf seems appropriate. Alongside BoSFat I now have to great setups for brush/soap with Mitchell's.

I will summarize this shave by saying the Durham Duplex is an interesting razor. It does work, but I'm not going to say it works really well. One pass gets enough reduction to know you've been there. The second pass gets CCS but anything further requires something else, at least for me. Now, a third pass might get to DFS but I seriously doubt it. I used my EJ DE89 and Bic Chrome Platinum again today to finish with DFS. The Durham is a unique piece of shaving history and for the cost (they sell cheap on the bay) it's worth having around. Will it ever make it into rotation? Nope. However, I could see using it as a backup straight in the event you needed to avoid further damage if that should happen with a straight razor. The technique is smiliar, since it's really a safety straight, but you certainly wouldn't risk further damage from it. I'm not sure what it would take to cut yourself with this thing. And, probably don't want to find out.

As November ends I want to say a big thanks to everyone who has read my posts and commented as well. It was a fun month with a few of us on the pain stick together and watching a lot of other really great progress from the regulars. As for the newbies, you're all great and on the right road to really enjoying your shaves! Keep at it. Technique, Technique, Technique.............on to December.

This month is perfect for me to learn skills with new-to-me equipment.

60 yo newbie’s intro to traditional shaving. (Week 29 AC*)

Blades: Feather Artist Club Professional (5)
    Soap: Saponificio Varesino Manna
    Brush: Omega 31025 Scarlatti Boar
AS: Changes at will. Today: Myrsol Plastic Shave

    11-30-15.JPG

My mid-morning shave yesterday (Sunday) was so close that I decided that I would do a one-pass ATG shave this morning. Face-lather.

This was the last day of my month-long intro to the Mongoose - my first use of a non-vintage razor. Between a design totally different than what I was used to and the sharpest most unforgiving blade I’ve ever used - this month challenged and ultimately further developed my skills.

Simply, this combo is capable of incredibly close shaves that requires sharp focus at all times (for me). Whereas I can get away with a mental lapse now and then with other razors without needing a transfusion!

It will definitely find a place in my rotation, though with so many razors yet to try - getting to a set rotation may take awhile!

Why oh why did I wait sooooo long to dump my carts! :angry032:

    Cheers!
