Thanks but.... I can tell you there isn't any talent required. My Ipad, combined with a free photobucket app make it all happen.
Calling all repeater dudes...I remember a conversation a while back....Some of us were discussing the virtues of the Schick repeaters...and we felt they were way ahead of their times...I even said, so far ahead of their time that no one has caught up yet... So in trying to figure why they were dropped....I thought because of WWII starting that production stopped and afterward the cost of production was why they were dropped in favor of the injector...Some others felt like it was because of reliability issues....And Slivowitz, who had the most hands on experience with these guys, his thoughts were that as cool as they are...You have 4 months worth of blades in there and shaving every day, and water is slooshing through the razor and magazine everytime you rinse the head...He felt like the condition of the blades would have been pretty bad after a while...especially the old carbon blades... So what do you think....Are the Schick Repeaters Just about perfect in every way....or is there an Archilles Heel built into the designs....Opinions Please....
My vote.....just about perfect in every way.... I don't know about a pack of 20 carbon blades getting rinsed everyday...that could of sealed their death warrent...But today we use Stainless...ha,ha .. And reliability....I feel mine is reliable....I would like to maybe have another magazine or two, you know...if this was my desert island razor...
Actually....I think there's quite a string of issues with the razor(s) 1) I think you called out the main 'flaw' in the design when you mentioned the 20 razor cartridge inside the razor that could well be exposed to water over a few months. 2) In addition to that having a head on a razor, with a blade loaded into it, that requires you to bend the head into shave-ready form every time you use it - and then bend it back after the shave - could also very well lead to some accidental finger cuts if you're not careful. 3) The shape of the handle is basically a rather short, rectangular rod with pretty pronounced edges - it would not be my first design concept if I were to design a handle myself as it's not quite as ergonomic and pleasing to hold on to as many modern offerings. 4) It's not what I would call a well-balanced razor. Too much towards the body forcing a stronger, conscious effort to get the head-angle correct. 5) Using proprietary blade magazines is tough way to sell a product I don't know if any of these 'challenges' caused the end of the repeating razors but if I look at the continuation of the Schick razors as they moved to injector razors a lot of the above seems to have been addressed in subsequent designs. I do of course still love these things but I wouldn't call them anywhere near 'perfect' - maybe 'quirky'
I think production costs would have had a part to play as well in their demise...The Type A & B went out of production in the 30s & the C Type on the outbreak of the War in 1941... Billy..
From the Schick history page: The original Schick Repeating Razors were made for the Magazine Repeating Razor Company by the American Chain and Cable Company in 1926. When Col. Schick decided to follow the dry shave road in 1928, he sold his interest in the Magazine Repeating Razor Company to American Chain and Cable, who continued to make and develop the razor until 1945. Although the razor we now know as the Schick Injector Razor was not produced until 1935, well after Col. Schick sold the company, one of the key patents was taken out by him in 1931, that being for the separate injector magazine with plug in key.
Hold the phone! So are you saying they made the type C up to 1945? If so that would explain why a few of the C's had a higher letter than we thought. Tom
It at least keeps the dating theory in play for now. As there are no letters past "L" 1944. We really need a much larger sampling.
I think it was saying the American Chain and Cable company made razors until 1945. The C is listed as being made until 1941.
Not me either...I was going to, but decided to focus on an 'A.' (So leave those alone, you snipes!) :bang:
