Maiden voyage with the Goose this morning. I will be pairing it with a Kai Captain blade (played eenie meenie with my sample pk).
I picked up a Jurgen Hempel Titanium the same size as the Big Bomber but at 60 something grams is much lighter. Pretty much all the modern stainless handles work. I have tried several handles so if I can help let me know. Here is a picture of the Mongoose with a Hempel handle.
the JH titanium is what Im planning on getting. Ive been hoping to pick up a used one but havent been fast enough on the various buy/sell sites.
Mine is shipped from MA as well. I was also surprised to see MA and not FL. Perhaps they changed their machine shop. In their emails they were talking about delays because of production issues they were having. May be they hired a new machine shop. Many razor manufacturers hire more than one shop for one model of razor. Hence we sometimes see the subtle variations between some razors.
Tracking predicts a Monday delivery. I'm planning on two days growth for a test shave Monday evening.
This sounds very AR, but I might do one side with a Feather Professional, and the other side with a Kai Captain Mild. 3 passes, which is my normal shave regimen with a straight razor.
If you are used to a SR, I bet you prefer the Feather Pro. I like the Feather Pro but prefer the Feather Super Pro.
I read the reviews of the Super Pro, and it sounded like it is preferred by those with heavy beards. I would not classify my beard as heavy, so I didn't order any of the Supers. Maybe I should give it a try though.
I don't have a heavy beard but my hair is so coarse that the Super Pro gives me a very close 2 pass shave.
I really enjoyed the Kai Captain as well. They seemed smoother than the Feather counterparts but didn't last as long for me. In my experience, I enjoyed all the Kai and Feather blades. However, I could not tell much difference between the Guard and Non Guard blades.
Well first shave is in the bag and it was an extremely good one. 3 pass BBS except one small area below my jawline on one side. I was careless and gave myself a small slice on my right cheek when I slammed the razor into my face inadvertently.
