Assuming "smoothest" means a combination of smooth face afterwards and comfortable shave: Personna Platinum Chrome (in red and black package) in the Edwin Jagger DE89, also sold as store brand blades by Walgreens and CVS Derby in the Merkur 34C If smoothest means just the most comfortable shave: Treet Dura Sharp and Trig in the Edwin Jagger DE89 Still the Derby in the Merkur 34C For me, the Treet Dura Sharp carbon is noticably better than the Treet "black beauty". Speculation that they are the same blade with different coatings seems incorrect. The Voskhod and Rapiras seem to get a lot of favorable mention, and must be pretty darned good. Based on those recommendations, they are next on the list of blades to try.
BIC platinum chrome so far on this amazing DE journey! Although I do really like the Israeli red Personnas as well.
I have come realize that with my favorite razor, ~1940 Gillette Tech, I have yet to have a truly bad blade. I think it must be so mild, every blade has a chance to perform in a satisfactory manner. I would go out on a limb and say, the more aggressive a razor, the bigger role the blade may play.
Have tried so many but for me 'top of the pops' are the Supermax Blue Diamonds - always reliable and longevity is good. Feathers come a close second!
I believe the Gillette Fusion Flex Ball razor that I have been using has been giving me the smoothest shaves, No Nicks and Weepers and no Razor burn so far, in the past several months that I have been using it. Before I started using the Gillette Flex Ball I always used either my Weber DE/Razor with Classic Handle or one of my Above the Tie DE/Razors with Krona Handle I always used Wilkinson Sword SS/DE Razor blades.if I didn't use Wilkinson I used Astra SP/DE.
Nothing smoother than the first shave with a fresh Feather for me. Rapira Platinum Lux blades come close, and are much longer lasting.
I'll stand by what I said in this thread over three years ago. Feathers. Edit: it was four years ago. My bad.
Nope, a little over 3 years. You posted 9/13/12, the day after I did And I'll stick with the Astra SP, same as I was using back then.
