Injector & SE Party !!!

That is one smokin little razor....so retro and cool.....But that H kind of trancends cool.....That might have accidently slip over here from a parallel shave scene in another dimension...I remember that from when my Pop bought Mom one when I was a kid..She didn't dig it as much as Pop's I2 and filed the H and stole Dad's Schick whenever she needed...

After reading your informative review, I guess it must have been that she dug the long handle for reaching her ankles....Man, if I had had any idea that thing shaved that great, I would have copped it...I saw it in a box as a young man when I helped them move onetime....She hadn't used it but once back in the '50's...I always thought it looked cool....Looks kinda like a vintage electric only it's an injector....Should have been a man's razor all along...Woman do prefer the long handles...

You need to do a follow up or a PAL/H shave-off to determine the quintessential combo....}8^))

I used to feel the ER 1924 was too new....I loved the shave but all my friends were using 1914s or older...ha,ha...I would just say, look...this youngster just shaves great...and the original patent on this design was 1909, ha,ha...But anything after WWI is in the modern era...Watch that term 'Old Timer'...you know hell hath no fury like a razor's score....

 

Is the razor leaning on the razor case? If it is, I have never seen a case like that...Looks like a fine jewelry box...

Yeah...Its a little Compact Box to fit in a handbag for traveling...It does look like a Miniature Jewellery Box...These Injectors have very short handles..They are Tiny...I got these from a UK seller in Mint Condition...I have never seen them before either...I got them both Cheap an All...They are very Rare it would appear...

I've never seen either the razors or those style boxes before...That box with the white top looks like it would cost a pretty penny by itself...}8^))

Those razors I'm sure are very rare and probably one day will be worth alot of bread just because they are so rare...
But if they shave half as good as they look......thats worth the price of admission...Very hip....I'm really surprised this series didn't really take off....except for maybe that thing about more ladies like the longer handles to make that ankle reach a little more......in reach...But these guys would have been so perfect for traveling....

 

You cant see in the Pics here but one has a Silver Head & the other is a Gold Head...I was "Tickled Pink" when I got them..

That is the Norm with the 1924s..The Ever Ready 1924 was a so called New Improved version of an earlier British designed Ever Ready 1907 Model with a stropping handle before the ASR Amalgamation of Companies...The New Improved Model was brought out in Britain around 1919 (Patent Pending) without the stropping handle to get folks away from stropping and to exchange blades and to buy into blade exchange Contracts...It was also another move by razor Companies to take these Services away from the local Barbershop...Some of these 1924 Sets and blade exchange contracts were expensive at the time...It gets its 1924 name from the year it started showing up in Mail Order Catalogue's of that said year...


Although the 1924s were getting made in the USA Ever Ready Plants the American Safety Razor Company were never happy with their British Partners doing their own thing...Management problems...When the Gem OCMM was introduced in 1929/1930 the ASR forced the British to stop making them and made them mass produce the so called New Improved 1912 from that year onwards...The USA based plants had been making them since the early 1920 s...The OCMM was the turning point and the USA wound production down of the 1924 themselves and stopped making any SE s that required a stropping blade...The OCMM was the first Gem SE that was designed for Current Gem blades..In short they got rid of all SE s that were designed to take a stropping blade after the OCMM was introduced..

my 24 is a favorite of mine. the shave lasts well into the afternoon.

I want to acquire an OCMM at some point. they are fairly common, just haven't, yet.

would the stropper supplied with the earlier models hold a rolls blade? would like a system to allow me to hone and strop a rolls outside its case. I'm disabled, and using my supplied rolls setup is clunky for me.

 

There was different stropping handles for different single edged blades...Check out this recent thread on the Den regarding the Rolls..

Hey man, what sets yours apart from most razors is how efficient it is...what a great razor the 1924 has always been...I was checking it out...
J B deMesquita applied for his first patent on the Shovelhead design in the same year Scheuber applied for the patent on the 1912...
When Scheuber and Richards formed R&S razors which became EverReady they started making an early 1924 type designed by deMesquita in 1909
When ASR began manufacturing razors, deMesquita became their treasurer, and they produced A 1924 type called the "New EverReady"...I believe thats the one BillyFergie might be refering to...They produce that shovel head thru 1915...again in 1919.Changed the handle...It replaced the 1914 and later became the 1924. They changed how the handle fits in the head and got a 1925 patent....
De Mesquita eventually became President of ASR and he was the one who acquired Personna...
deMesquita was a heavey weight in the world of razors and he only actually invented one razor and that was the Shovelhead design and he spent his whole career refining and fine tuning it...The ER 1924 was his progeny...and masterpiece....

You know that's why I have always been quite apprehensive & somewhat critical of these Kickstarter projects with someone throwing a razor design together in their back shed..These Guys of Old spent their lives fine tuning their work to create a Masterpiece.Most of these Kickstarter projects are Hobbiest Designer Razors at best..

All this talk about 1924s has me itching to try out the latest razor to land in my mailbox. I've always loved the brass Ever Ready 1912s with the chain link handles and I found one in really nice condition for less than $10. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I opened the package and realized it was a 1924. I didn't know they came in brass with this handle. I hadn't inspected the listing close enough to see that it was a shovelhead. But I sure don't mind. Sometimes you just get lucky.

 

The reason I am looking forward to shaving with my new brass 1924 (instead of actually shaving with it) is that I got a hold of a nice PAL Adjustable as a pass around on another board. I have say I was really looking forward to trying out the PAL Adjustable this morning. I've had more of these slip through my fingers than I can count. Loaded with a fresh Schick blade it sat all night on my counter waiting patiently for me. As I prepped I kept thinking about, "find the shy girl behind the tree." Yes, Grasshopper, when you can snatch the pebble from my hand it will be time to buy a PAL Adjustable... Or something like that.

Anyhow, I have to say that from the very first stroke I knew the shy girl was out to play. I had the setting at medium and this is probably just about right. There was enough audible and tactile feedback to know it was doing it's job. One thing that stood out was how smooth it was. Were it not for the feedback, I would have thought I was sliding an empty razor across my face.

When I finished with the first pass the reduction was up there with my other favorites - the PAL Injecto Matic, the Personna Floating Head, and an early type E2 with a modified Feather blade. (Actually my H type with a Personna blade belongs in that list but I think you guys are tired of hearing about that. ) Clearly this was going to be a smooth, close shave when I was done.

And it was. After two more passes and a few minor touch ups after wetting my face I was done. I've got that smooth, smooth, smooth "dolphin skin" feel to my face and it feels great.

If there is one downfall it is that it was easy to push just a little too much, having been lulled into the smooth, easy operation of the PAL Adjustable. A few small weepers in the sensitive area between my lower lip and chin told me to take it a little easier next time. Other than that oversight on my part I have nothing but a positive report. I can only imagine that with a little more practice it will be very hard to send it on to the next lucky person on the list.

I thought you would find the "Shy Girl " straight away...A lot of folk appear to have issues with this one...So glad you like it..It is a Smoother Injector than the PAL Injectomatic & that's sayin Somethin but there it is...The PAL Adjustable is far more refined & sophisticated that's for sure...
