1. Speaking only for my experiences, but whenever I've tried to get back to my pipes too quickly after a spell with allergies or sinus infection, it just isn't as good and sometimes I relapse a little.

I also enjoy flipping through a catalog!

  2. I'm with you brother Chris. I also enjoy the ritual of the pipe, holding the pipe, and ultimately like the taste better. My son is more of a cigar guy, so ocassionally I will have one with him. But I do prefer the pipe overall.

  3. I never got around to ordering G.L. Pease's The Virginia Cream, so when I do, I'll add these to my list.

  4. Don't rush you sinuses. Tobacco smoke screws up the pH of the mucous membranes and dries them out, making it harder to heal.

(Not a doctor, just a redneck who has seen some stuff.)

I also love the catalog and read it like a child every month!

  5. I sipped on my small pipe for a few hours. Had to relight often. OGF about a half flake. It was nice. I read the warnings after I had done it so Ill see how my body reacts to it.

Orlik Golden Slice in a Chacom Virgin Lovat. A little too warm for a fire tonite.
  7. I wonder how much Orlik Golden Sliced sales have gone up due to this thread? @Bama Samurai needs to get some kind of award from Orlik, LOL!

  8. Too funny... And not so ironically was pondering popping a fresh tin. Earlier I had a bowl of LA Red. I like it....so many VA Flakes, so little time.

  9. OGS is not the best tobacco, but you can't beat it on price, consistency, and great burn qualities. It's simple tobacco, done well, a sublime example of the Danish style.
  10. My last pipe I tryes the fold and stuff but my bent pipe is so small that half a flake blocked the draw and wouldn't stay lit. I dug it out rubbed it out and repacked it. I need to remember to let it sit out a few minutes for a dryer pipe

  11. Rubbed out well is my preferred way to smoke OGS.

    Kaywoodie Drinkless Carved Ball

I spent three hours drying and rubbing this Flake. Here we go... About to toast the top... Small bowl in case it gives me fits...

  13. It smoked well, stayed lit, tasted good. It's really a lot of prep, though.

  14. It's good stuff, but does require proper prep.

  15. I may smoke a pipe today. I may wait until after court tomorrow. I managed an hour of Yoga this evening so I feel good and relaxed.

  16. I am doing it again later tonight. It's drying right now. About another 45 min. I really enjoyed the subtle flavors, but I still find the Lakeland style a bit laborious. I really was able to get the sweet fermented Virginia taste, but in general FVF is quite mild, I detect very little nicotine. It does have me wondering how good that Germain might end up being in about a year.

  17. Very true, folding works better in larger pipes.

  18. I may try it in my largest pipe which is my Dr Grabow. I'm going to skip it tonight and smoke tomorrow afternoon after court. I have a feeling ill need to relax with a pipe and a good read afterword.

  19. I think I will rub out and zip lock bag a flake or 2 and take my straight pipes with me so I can smoke I the car on the way home tomorrow. I have a Sony camera bag I use since I don't have a pipe bag. I feel like Ill smoke between 5 and 7 bowls tomorrow after court and some late night drinking and revelry with friends.

The pipe rest I just received, bought off fleabay along with a Kaywoodie white pipe and a Weber. I think the Kaywoodie will clean up nicely, not sure about the Weber. The pipe rest was the main reason I bid, it's in nice condition and appears to be walnut. Not bad for a bit under $15.
