A good honer (not me) could probably make that a very fine razor. The picture you posted didn't let me get a really good look but it might be savable. I would take a better picture and post it up for some of the straight greats to ponder over before it hit the bin again.
Talk about a haul. I had this nice 22mm High Mountain badger knot arrive today from Mark, @Boojum1. He wrote me out of the blue and offered to send me the knot for free. I am putting it in Jayaruh #38. Thanks again, Mark.
Vintage C-MON 'Blackie' arrived. Pre-1955; German steel, imported to Brooklyn NY by Peter J Michels (see the PJM silver bolsters). Always happy when the item is even BETTER in person than it appears in auction photos. Love these CMON shavers! SMOoooooooOOooth! A little red touch-up paint on the tang logo & just about good-to-go to the hones...
So many old men smell different. Which one did they stuff in a bottle? Some smell good and some smell like stale cigarettes and BO. The ones that smell good don't even all smell the same. I like Clubman and I've been told it smells like an old man but most of the old men I knew smelled like Aqua Velva, Old Spice, Brut or Obsession for men.
Quite honestly I don't think the scent is the main thing for me. I mean, it's nice and all but to me the big thing is the absolutely stellar effect it has on the skin. "Floider". I kinda like it. I did a quick check on some common sites and it's a sad state of affairs: Italianbarber: Out of stock Westcoast shaving: Out of stock Straighrazordesigns: Out of stock Amazon.com: Out of stock Amazon.co.uk: Three left at..GBP 125/bottle Bullgoose: Out of stock Shaving.ie: Out of stock There are a handful on eBay and the least expensive I could find was still over $90 for one bottle shipped... Yikes...
And all the common sample people are out of it too. I was looking kinda hard but I've slowed down in the last few months. I'm not willing to buy a whole bottle but I am very curious.
Out of those I guess its closest to Aqua Velva, but not artificial and chemical lab. I guess you could say it's what Aqua Velva aspires to be. Lightly mentholated, clean, fresh, with a slight powder finish. And yes it's very soothing to the skin.
To make it even worse......TVBShaving where I got my bottles for $28 shipped....posted this earlier today on their site: "We are really sorry to inform you that we do not ship more floid bottles to United States because a large number were broken during transport and we don't have the insurance to cover it. Thank you for your understanding!" I guess that's it for US customers I'm surprised as my bottles arrived extremely well packaged and well protected. That sucks...
The hair tonic and EDT are inexpensive on eBay as is the mostly full older bottle of AS but the new formula AS are going for $65 a bottle.
I may need to get my sister in Greece to find and send me stuff that's hard or impossible to find over here stateside.
