I have never seen gold plating loss in a perfectly straight line before. There is usually some sort of waviness or obvious sign. I will try and post a pic when I get home from work, but it seems intentional. As usual, I could be wrong and I usually am.
Interesting - taking into consideration that they both sport the same number. Maybe our spreadsheet actually will prove to yield some insight into these razor models that haven't been known before
Im pretty sure the head parts are two seperate pieces. In your case the top/blade holder piece is silver. The line is there on mine but both parts are gold plated.

It almost seems the Buy It Now with a Make Offer option on these razors can get the better price. Straight auctions seem to drove the prices up, and when they list with a BIN, the price is always high and scares people away.
Went with the A type this morning. I used the same setup as yesterday so I could compare it to the C 3. Not as easy to use, it requires a lighter touch and a little more care than the C. The resulting shave was good but not quite as close. Could need a new blade, this was #4 on this one. Have a great day all!
Two passes and wasn't completely happy with the results so switched to the Mongoose for the third pass and the results were an amazing BBS.....maybe the best ever
