I didn't really need another E2 Schick but I'm a sucker for the textured Schicks plus it came with an interesting case
The GEM Featherweight I bought from @Karl G arrived today. Beautiful razor in excellent condition! Looking forward to shaving - but maybe not tomorrow, since today's shave was so effective...
The head is made of aluminum and the handle is made of some kind of metal, maybe copper or brass plated with nickel. The handle is much heavier than the head so it's balance is not well designed but the shave is very good. It a very aggressive DE razor, It doesn't bend blades much, just a little, so shaves like a shavette
So I confessed I am a shaving enthousiast at the tram museum where I do voluntary work. Then next week one of the guys came up with this: In more detail: Shaving mirror / brush stand / bowl stand (Zorro is curious as to what the dog's name I'm doing!). Needs some cleaning / polishing but it is looking great otherwise! The mirror clearly isn't new (it shows a distorted image and it 'the old days' perfect flat glass was difficult to make). The metal around the ceramic bowl has got a small dent in it, but otherwise it is in mint state. Two handles (alas, no heads). The right one is aluminum and the left one is bronze or something like that. Too bad the head is missing, for it looks quite nice! 13 Schick DE blades, in several holders. One ultra thin blade (dutch rebrand). Feels almost like paper. Two brandless blades an an unusual design. 15 David DE blades. Quite thick or at least quite rigid. And two brushes. The right one looks like a regular, althoug vintage De Vergulde Hand boar brush. The left one is somewhat ... unusual to say the least. The handle feels actually quite nice in the hand. It is branded LIWA Widax Volcanized | Sterilized ?BGM Never heard of it. Looks like badger at first glance, boar at second and badger again at third glance. We'll see. Does anyone have an idea as to ascertain which type of hair it is? I'll give everything a good clean, polish the stand and bowl, shampoo the brushes and will give 'em all a spin soon!
Just received my 1940 Gillette Milord Tech back from Razor Emporium. They did a revamp in 24k. These pictures are more orange tinted than it appears in daylight. It turned out beautifully. They really do great work. Before: After: I will take some more pictures tomorrow in natural light.
