Why so many shaving video makers?

OK, I've got to admit that videotaping yourself shaving still seems a little weird to me. Weirder still is me sitting there watching it. But what I don't get is why there are so many "average joes" doing it in a fairly regular fashion. I get it if you have a business interest or something. Is it merely for the celebrity or what? Doesn't sound like many are getting free products for review or anything like that. The other thing that seems kinda weird now that I'm in it as deeply as I am is that not all of them seem all that good technically or knowledgeable either. But maybe that's my hyper-critical nature kicking in.

 

Some of them are hilarious! I saw one where the guy was reviewing a menthol soap and he did the most ridiculously spastic harsh lathering I ever saw. He got soap in his eyes, sliced himself with a straight edge. His wife interrupted him.It was a comedy show.... I'm gonna look for the link, it's painful to watch him try and navigate that straight. Painfully funny that is...

 

Yeah, I don't really get it either. I really appreciated @mantic 's videos but most of them are not good at all, unless they're funny like drunk guy straight shaving. At least I get a laugh out of those.

 

I think, in part, it comes from the narcism that the Internet seems to bring out in some people. Something along the lines of I'm interested in this, so I'll put a video about it up on YouTube and see how many likes/follows/whatever I can get.

One thing I have to say, though, is that I admire a number of them for their ability to make and manage lather. I do okay with lathering, but no way could I stand there in a clean white undershirt, lather myself and not make a sopping mess of the shirt. (Yes, I probably need to work on my technique, but still...)

There was one redhead guy I saw do weird things early on but I haven't run across him in a long time. He was really funny too -- as in comedian funny.

Hey, I don't care if I have man boobs or not. If I'm shaving -- even on camera, I ain't wearing no stinking shirt. And as far as that goes, Nick Shaves has no idea how he'd up his female viewership if he'd drop the shirt. (That wouldn't be part of my expectation were it me on camera.)

 

Guys I don't want to sound like a jerk but some of these guys are soo bad that they instill confidence in my own noob abilities. We need these guys people!

Try again, I changed it from private to unlisted. See if that works for you. It was almost three years ago and my only shave video. It was with a purpose.

 

Maybe he deleted his post from embarrassment or harsh comments. People can be cruel. Still funny

Thank you. It was done with that cheap VDH badger brush and VDH Deluxe shaving soap. I like the soap. I piffed the brush. I have much better brushes now. This is way back when I moved from bowl to face lathering. I only bowl lather when I get a new brush and am getting the stink out or just doing the first lather.

Yeah it was odd seeing the brush master using a VDH. Mine finally stopped shedding, glad it didn't go bald in the process. I agree their soap is very nice.

 

Seems to me there are a lot of folks out there with a desire to be the next viral vid star. Several years ago, there was this dude posting vids about blades and such and their "superiority " over firearms. I remember his last vid he slices himself up pretty good.
