    Mastro Livi Symmetrical Kamisori

Today I finally had the chance to try this Mastro Livi symmetrical kamisori and I was very impressed by the ease of use and the performance in shaving. A symmetrical kamisori needs a different shaving technique from the traditional kamisori, however giving a very good shave. The point of this symmetrical kamisori seems to be very effective and precise, altough tricky just like any kamisori, however super precise. The pattern of the Damasteel used for this kamisori is "Odin's eye" and I opted for this one as it was a pattern missing in my collection. I also used one of my favorite shaving soaps - Boellis Panama 1924 - as I have a passion for almond scented soaps belonging to the Italian tradition, this is one of my favorite ones. Impeccable and super pleasurable shave!
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Boellis Panama 1924 Shaving Soap
    • Brush: Mastro Livi Silvertip Badger, 26mm knot
    • Bowl: Old Barber Bowl
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Medium Loom Strop "Coramella Italiana" and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi Symmetrical Kamisori, 11/16 Full Hollow, French Point
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
    • After Shave: Myrsol F./Extra

I received a very nice gift from the family for Christmas. A Simpsons Duke 2 Best. I would never consider buying a brush like this for myself mainly due to the price. I'm very happy with my gift and grateful for all my blessings. I haven't decided on my shave for the day but it will include my new brush. Off to the in-laws at 3pm for dinner. Merry Christmas to all at TSD!

Ended up using BebeLush Peppermint, Orange & Pine soap face lathered w/Duke 2, Rocket w/7 o'clock SP (black) & Fine Platinum

Just used it and I have to agree. I told my wife she had to pay too much but she said she got it on Amazon (Cyber Monday) for $64 w/free shipping! That's a deal since I can't find it for under $90 anywhere............

Straights to the Finish Line! - Special Anniversary Shave (ok, a bit late)

    December 25

Razor - Van Der Hagen TTO (Weishi)
    Blade - vdh.JPG
Brush - Tweezerman Badger (the incredible super shedding edition)
    Soap - Proraso Green Tub
Post - Cold water, Alum, Aqua Velva Musk

Wanted to take today and go back in time to last November when I first started wet shaving and use the first setup I ever put together. I had found the VDH razor and blades at Target and decided to give it a go. SWMBO suggested a brush and soap for a "real" shave as she put it, and I ordered the Tweezerman, largely because it was cheap and I didn't know if I'd like shaving like this, and the Proraso just because so many people talked about it. The blades are "Ice Tempered Stainless Steel", whatever that advantage is supposed to be, and made in Solingen, the "city of blades". Yeah, ok. I remember how bad I did the first few times and how rough it felt compared to carts at the time. Still, I persisted and soon after acquired the Aristocrat by total chance and then my Merkur 23c from the same person and I was off to the races in the great AD race. So, today, in honor of that first year of going from crap to crazy, it's back to that setup.

The Tweezerman actually isn't the worst brush, probably, but not a great one either. About like an Escali. Just be aware you'll be shedding more bristles than you ever could imagine. It does get a good lather with the Proraso. Better this year than last due to my knowing what in the world I'm supposed to do. The shave was actually better than I remembered, again no doubt due to better technique. Still a bit rough on the feel of the blade but I finished a two pass with touchups at a very high level DFS. Alum was totally silent. Of course, the VDH razor is incredibly mild so that helps. Finished off with the classic AV Musk and called it all good. A year ago that was an ordeal. Today, just another example of TTT. That was my last VDH blade and I won't be replacing them. At least you can say they're better than 99% of the Chinese offerings.

Hope you're all having a great day! Looks like Santa is enjoying the day after.
