Gettin' ready for the long sleigh ride. Hitching up the polar bears as we speak and showing off for the adoring fans.
Heard the doorbell ring, went to see who it was..... Surprise!!! My daughter up from Texas!! We had no idea. What a great Christmas blessing!!!
Lots of rain and flooding here. Not my house, we're on high ground, but others in the area having to evacuate.
Got up early and made a one of my favorite single cup coffee brews. Clever Coffee Dripper. We are hosting Christmas this year and need a good start to the day. Merry Christmas to all enjoy the and cherish the people around you. Turkey is in the oven.
So, last monday and tuesday I visited an old friend who lives some 145 km (90 miles) away. At a pace of 45 km/h (28 mph) it took me a while to get there (and back). Including lunch break it took me about 6 hours both times. Today I finally got the pictures uploaded: The Zeelandbrug (Zealand Bridge). At 5 km (just over 3 miles) it once was Europe's longest bridge. It still is impressive (to me, that is ). In the background is Zierikzee. It is a beautiful yet small city with lots of monument buildings and the 'capital city' of the island where I live. Antwerp (from the left bank). Another really beautiful city. I've done my studies there. In the centre of the pic is the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kathedraal, a beautiful building. I crossed the river Schelde via a pedestrian tunnel of 500 meters length. There are no bridges in Antwerp, only tunnels. On the road back I took the same roads. Here is the pedestrian tunnel: And the view I had on my lunch location (notice the Minions lunch box ). Again Antwerp. The river makes a bend here, so I'm still on the right bank. The reddish building that looms out on the left side is the MAS (Museum On The Stream), a nautical museum. There's free access to the roof, which gives a beautiful view on the city and the river.
I offer a prayer for your family. My wife and I went through a similar situation many years ago with our daughter - now 30. Spending several weeks in a children's hospital was an eye opener. It's something I never forgot and is still vivid. The courage of the kids and other families was inspirational. Many of the kids we're there prior to our arrival and remained after we left (with a good outcome). I know that some of those kids we met probaly never left. I've always tried to remember, and told my kid's "if you think you have it bad just look around." Best wishes to your daughter.
Our son, who turned 1 two weeks ago, was born 14 weeks early. He spent 123 days in the NICU at two hospitals, most of that time in a Children's Hospital. He faced some big challenges, but through medical technology, devoted professionals, and divine intervention he has come out on the other side as a healthy, happy baby boy. One of his specialists told us that what has happened with a couple of his issues cannot be explained through science. He looked us in the eyes and said our son was blessed with divine aid. Hearing a medical professional say that was astounding. All of that to say that we will do anything for our kids, but having to be in the hospital with them and worry over something you cannot control or see or feel is heart-wrenching. Today our son opened some presents and laughed and smiled....and we did too. Merry Christmas to all!
I had a nice thing happen yesterday. My husband had to work (he is an EMT) so I ran out to pick up 2 items we needed, for the dinner we had planned- a dozen eggs & some cooking wine. Unfortunately, I got to the market just as they were locking up. The manager saw me approaching the store ( still using a cane) and explained that they had just closed. I understood, of course, and figured that I could still find some small convenience stores that were still open. As the cashier was just finishing with his last customer, the manager brought me inside, ran up the aisles to get me the items I needed and then brought them to the cashier, who rang me up graciously and without complaint. Finally, the manager walked me out & carried the bag to my car for me.
Thanks, preidy, for prayers and good wishes. I hope I will manage to remember and keep the same perspective.
