  1. Christmas day shave was an easy choice since I only have one razor with me at the moment. Day two with my F - a bit rushed so I learned that it is capable of biting - a few weepers from not being more mindful in my difficult spots. Still a fabulous shave. I'm wondering if my Plus Plat is wearing out after two uses or just that I was rushed today and things were a little more ragged in a few sections as a result. Then again, I barely had any stubble left as it was less than 24 hours from a dolphin skin shave yesterday so that probably has something to do with it as well. :)

A nice bonus about the F is that it cleans up post shave so easily - the alloy just comes back to life with a simple rub of the towel. It also rarely clogs during the shave. Why did they fiddle with things after making this one? One of life's mysteries. :pot:

Christmas seemed like a good reason to break out the C. V. Heljestrand. What an incredible razor! There is something almost magical about shaving with a blade that I personally honed and stropped to its current sharpness. An irritation-free BBS leaves me wondering why I even mess with other razors (which won't stop me from continuing to do so).

The Grey Flannel aftershave and EdT was a Christmas gift from my wife. :happy088:

Merry Christmas everyone, or whatever you happen to be celebrating. If you're not celebrating anything, have a great day.

  5. Showed my father in law my razor collection today. He lives 2.5 hrs away and was visiting for Christmas. He stated that he has a Schick L type that he's been shaving with for years and recently repaired it with J-B weld.
That's all I needed to hear to gift him my L type with a fresh loaded blade. Felt good to gift it.
He's an interesting guy, retired farmer who does really good metal art from metal that he has around the barns. He also has a nice classic and modified vehicle collection.
  6. I had an "Ahh-Haa" experience shave today....after reading what Vic Rodrigues had to say about shaving with his c3...
He said it was designed so you didn't have to stretch your skin with your free hand...etc, etc...
So I decided to shave that way with Vic's E-type.....Got an irritation free dfs in 2 passes, and felt the same kind of freedom than is usually reserved for my PAL Injecto-matic...I wanted to go for the'baby' with a 3rd ATG pass, but people arrived and I had to stop...Looking forward to more experimenting.....I have a feeling I'm on the verge of a new appreciation of this E2....Today's shave was one of those "best shave ever" type shaves....:happy088:

Today Spike was in a playful mood and was so much fun and bloodless...}8^)) Not a weeper! and sooo close, I could get used to this...I do feel a focus coming on....
  7. Nice one...I find that the early E2 is quite a subtle injector...I used to be wary of it & as you say a few miles down the road there is a New Found Freedom of Expression just waiting round the corner...:happy088:

A great 3 pass shave this morning. With each use, I am getting better with the area between my nose and lips. Overall a near BBS shave.

Another near perfect, virtually no effort shave this morning. The type D has quickly become my "reach me first razor".

  10. Sticking with the F until I get back home. With less than 24 hours of stubble I cut back to a 2 pass routine to avoid any risk of getting too close. Nice shave.

  11. I broke out the Gem Micromatic Clog-Pruf today. What a fantastic smooth shave! It is much easier to shave with than the MMOC. I will be using this Gem for the remainder of the year.

  12. Very Profoundly put, Sensei....

Today, I tried to repeat yesterday's low impact shave with this early E2 and was rewarded with an even better shave than yesterday!

I did the first 3 passes; wtg, xtg, atg; with just my right hand and a feather touch at that...No left hand skin stretching...a feather lite touch...I placed the angle, guard bar first and raised the handle and listened to find the angle. I don't ride the head as I usually do, but very lightly balance between guard bar and head...handle almost parellel with cheek....Boom, shaving nirvanna...Heaven...effortless and irritation free....

Then touch up pass, I held the skin gently with my left hand, no pulling just two finger hold, while doing atg buffing or j-hooking...Everything went down very smoothly...

Results, BBS and skin felt like absolutely irritation free...Not taking anything away from any of my other razors, but this is the closest thing I have found to a great str8 shave experience with a safety razor....only the shave was closer than I can get with my shavette...

All in all, I don't know what to say.....looks like "Spike" has turned over a new leaf....

PS.. @Billyfergie ....The early E2 also has.....well...to use a term thought up by someone far wiser than I...The "Shygirl"factor.....yes, the 'shy girl ' factor is very high on this one....}8^))
  13. I agree with @HoosierTrooper /Tom....I also believe the clog-pruf to be practically perfect in every way....

BTW...Jay, bless your soft spot for trading....}8^)) I love the deal you made with me...wishing you many shave blessings to come, Sir...

  15. ASR got a whole lot of things right....Right from the get-go....

Everything August Scheuber touched...the Junior Bar Lather Catcher, 1912 Damaskeene...

Also Ever Ready held up it's end of the perfection bar with the ER 1914, and 1924s....

Then the Micromatic beat Gillette to the tto punch by at least 2 years and even then, had more style. The way it closes and robotically slides the blade forward til it is in the perfect angle. Looks like an attenna-ed gadget from the Jetsons, and is far superior in design to the Gillette tto, IMHO....

Ohh Yeah...Let's not forget the PAL Injecto-matic was part of the ASR progeny....

And these are just the most obvious trend setters...there were too many....Come on folks.....Lets hear, which ones you guys think were; to borrow a phrase from Mary Poppins, "Practically perfect in every way"

  16. Looks like another one of Victor Octavius Rodrigues' progeny has captured the heart & whiskers of...and has made "An honest shaver" out of another of our swinging 'one night shave' denizens....Looks like the D's, E's or F's are knocking our guys out of the rotating playing field like flies.lol!

Great pic Rodge...What a kit !! Might BE time to settle down....:sad038:

  18. Have any of you cats been thinking about your New Year's Day shave kit?

A desision NOT to be taken too lightly...If you need a shoulder to lean on or need to talk about it....Now's the time!
There are many different levels to consider...It's not about "The Best"as I'm sure most here at THIS Party are hip enough to know...It's about so many different things on many different levels...sentimental, ease, setting a tone for the coming year...starting a focus....changing styles...something old, something new....a tribute shave to a departed loved one...a solidarity shave with friends or family,......yep there are many ways to go with this one...

Lets kick it around....or just let us know your picks! Sometimes; if "on the fence" seeing what others are thinking about or have decided on can help give us ideas....

This is a special shave, let's slam this one out of the park!!

Let's here some chatter in the dugout!
  19. Wheres that Arko? Ohh I guess you probably had to pif them all to save your skin after that 'slip of the lip'... :lam: That's cool....we wouldn't want to see anyone arko'ed and feathered around here this time of year...and La Toja is a worthy constituent.....;)
