I had a mustache for 15 years, and it required frequent maintenance. I don't miss it, as I like to be totally clean shaven. In other words, I look old enough without it. If someone refers to me as "young man," I thank them and wonder if they need new glasses. I am, however, proud of the nice crop of hair sprouting from my ears and nose.
Wonderful photo, Doug! That beautiful Aristocrat really pops against the colors and the natural lighting.
Adam, dark side questions are starting to form in my mind. I realize you had a rough shave with this jewel right out of the gate, and you wanted to touch it up before the shave. How many shaves do you normally get on a blade before using a pasted strop? Do you ever skip the paste and go straight to a 12K stone for touch up? Assuming I don't destroy the edge of my blade by stropping incorrectly, I'm trying to get a rough idea of how often I'll need to touch up my blade and eventually send it off for honing. Thanks for your help. I've learned a lot about straight razor shaving from reading your posts.
Thanks Charlie. I have about 30 shaves or so with Gem razors and now it has started to click. No the razor has not been replated. I got this razor in a boxed set with NOS Damaskeene blades in trade for a Golden 500 Schick Injector.
December Focus Day 26: Homemade PS Oil Simpsons Commodore X3 Best Badger TSD Lavender and Rose Wheat SC Frederick's Celebrated Razor Stirling Unscented PSB Aqua Velva AS I skipped a day yesterday, so I had a couple for days of growth to work with today. I also went with my Frederick's Celebrated this morning and paired it with the TSD Lavender and Rose Wheat SC. All I can say is it was a great shave. I will admit to two little nicks, but I got very close to BBS. I am going to call this a DFS+. It was definitely the easiest time I had maneuvering a straight razor. This razor felt great in my hand and really great on my face.
With 4 days left in the month and a 12 pt. lead, I'm breaking out the fake champagne(is there such a thing?) for my first survey win as a TSD member. Congrats to the another "no's:.

Thanks Robyflexx! I'm pleased my wife picked this off my Christmas list. It's my first non-vintage razor. I think I'm going to like it!
Day 27 - DEcember 2015 Shave Den Sunday! I have this shave planned for after the Green Bay game. Miserably cold today! Great indoor weather. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado! Have a Great Sunday!
Hello all I know this is gona bite me on the backside but I'm declaring it anyway. I have nailed my technique, 2 perfect shaves in 2 days both 3 pass with touch ups both bbs this focus and your advice helps no end. It has been very hard not playing with new creams ect and sticking to the same set up but it has paid off next months focus is all about vintage. Where I will be learning se on my 1924 I imagine I am going to be starting the same process I've just completed and I can't wait. Thank you all for joining me on my introduction to traditional shaving I look forward to your support through the vintage month.
I really like the DOC. After a couple of shaves, you'll have the angle totally figured out, and it should continue to impress. What a great gift!
You have done really well! Just remember that even though the various types of razors look different, they are all just a way to present a blade to the skin at a shallow angle. Angle is everything with SE and injector razors! I look forward to watching you work through the month of vintage razors! The January group thread will open on 30 December.
