So I am only 2 or 3 months into wet shaving as I have stated previously. I started with a really inexpensive "budget soap". Wilkinson sword. You can pick it up on amazon, I've also seen it at Walmart. Cost is under 4 dollars for a large tub of it. It doesn't have much scent but I get a great lather and tons of slickness out of this puck. I let it soak in hot water for about 5 minutes then straight at it with a fairly dry badger brush. I get three passes with one brush load and there is still lots left in the brush after. If you're looking for a budget soap give this stuff a try.
If you're looking for a budget soap try Williams. If you're looking for a good budget soap, try anything else
I have some Williams. I haven't tried it yet. I only bought it because nick from nickshaves couldn't get it to lather so I'm gonna try to one up him!
Trust me if shipping was free I'd send you mine. That stuff is so bad it negates any of the colorful presentation on the packaging. YMMV
My mileage most definitely does vary. I count Arko amongst the best shaves I've had to date. It's post shave where it loses out somewhat for me because it's quite drying. (And yes-- I'm fine with the scent.)
I've never seen Wilkinson Sword soap at Walmart or any other local stores. It may be regional or exclusive to Canadian Walmarts.
The only Wilky soap I know of is the British blue colored shave sticks. It has an excellent reputation.
Oh I think it lathers well. For me it's just horribly dry during and after my shaves. I don't find it to be slick at all and truthfully even though it's cheap there are way better options in it's price range. It lacks scent big time too. YMMV
