    Great review, even nicer brush.

You have got my curiosity regarding the two Gillette blade types. While I don't have a red tip to use I do have my blue tip.
I have used the Gillette Silver Blues a few months back and remember them being a very sharp blade to me at the time. Then again I have used sharper since then. I have an unopened tuck of the Gillette Platinum blades.

Starting tomorrow I will for the heck of it compair the two and see if the YMMV happens to be consistent with yours.

This helps me figure out what to use for a while. And I really need to learn the details or " the way of the blue tip ".

Before starting this hobby I never would have thought I would put as much thought into my morning shave as I do my suit for the day. Ok, maybe more than my suits.

    New Year's Day Shave

Everytime I shave I always think a lot about what to pick for shaving. Which razor - this is easy as I usually end up picking a Mastro Livi - which soap or cream, which aftershave, which brush. Everytime I shave I always think I have too many soaps and I really mean this. I think I now have about one hundred different soaps, to which are added the ones I personally make. For this reason, everytime it is very hard to pick one but I have to make a decision. This time I opted for this Geo. F. Trumper Spanish Leather Shaving Cream and I admit I liked it, fragrance in particular. I also opted for this very special Mastro Livi razor, a very limited edition of which have been made just three of them. It was in fact made in occasion of the meet up we had with a bunch of fellow wet shavers in Perugia at Mastro Livi's laboratory one year ago - 13.12.2014 is the date of the meet up, 13 december 2014 - and this is the razor made for celebrating that event. A great straight razor made of stainless steel, a super performer, super smooth and velvety, for an impeccable shave.
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Geo F. Trumper Spanish Leather Shaving Cream
    • Brush: Omega Bristle Brush #49 Red
    • Bowl: Bamboo Bowl
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Medium Loom Strop "Coramella Italiana" and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi "Perugia 13.12.14", 15/16 Full Hollow, Spanish Point
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
    • After Shave: Suavecito Bay Rum

Todays shave will be with sentimental items. The brush and razor were both gifted to me by my lovely wife who introduced me to wet shaving with this kit. The NOS Old Spice mug and soap was also a gift from my wife, which Ive only used on special occasions.

Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed (Z3)
    Feather (3)
Rudy Vey Shavemac two-band silver tip
    XPEC unscented
    Two passes plus touch-ups
Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Small Batch Shave Tonic

Today's shave was first pass WTG (face)/ATG (neck) and second pass ATG, with minimal touch-ups. I used a few XTG strokes above and below my mouth area. XPEC lathers up well enough, but it's nothing special so far. I'm sure it will perform better as I get some experience with it. The Small Batch Shave Tonic, with its rich, complex scent, provides a wonderful finish.

    Happy New Year!

If you don't have any Voshkod or Polsilver I can send you a few along with a couple Feathers. If you planned getting some already no worries. Voshkod and Polsilver for myself are great.

You probably have some Astra blades, they seem to be popular currently. They have yet to work well with any of my razors as of yet. The SP is slightly better than the SS. Of course ymmv. I would be happy to mail a few SP and SS your way as well.

Awesome, I hope I'm / we are not going overboard with advice. As for myself, I like the chance to have stimulating shave talk and learn from others experiences.

Hahahaha! It is our main public library and the looks don't even faze me, any longer!
I wouldn't say I was moving up with Mike's, just revisiting an old friend with a new scent! You know where my heart is at with soaps. :D

Thanks, Herm, but they don't do much traveling, really. They never leave the city. Today's pic was the first time they have travelled to the downtown core. :)

Great looking SE 's there. A local shop has a Jr with Bakelite handle for sale. Unfortunately the shop owner paid quite a bit for it and has to make some profit. So it is priced higher than I would like to pay. In time he will come down or I will get him to add it to a large purchase.

I have a few SE and love the shave they provide. Well all except one I have to get the hang of. The only bad thing about my SE razors is that I waited so long to use them.

I have found there is (for me) little difference between the carbon and SS blades but a great leap in comfort and quality to the Teflon coated ones.

Keep us posted on how you like em.

    image.jpeg Razor: Gillette gold toggle (D1) 1958 (5)
    Brush: e-shave Badger
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: Cella classica 1899
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black cooling gel, Old Spice Lime original Shulton cologne Frosted Glass 1960s

Starting the new year right. My toggle is a treat to shave with. It's like driving a Ferrari, just perfect, in every way, and beautiful. The Cella whipped up thick lather, I really like this cream. Great cushion and no preshave needed. Very close 2 pass shave, perfect! Some WH and after cleanup some Jack Black AS gel, then some vintage Old Spice Lime, and all is good. Another DFS for my toggle. The extra weight and the great balance of the toggle make it very easy to just let the razor do the work, and enjoy the ride. Happy New Year, y'all.

    Pre: Warm shower
    Blade: Rapira Swedish Supersteel (3)
    Razor: WSC 3-piece
    Brush: Nylon synthetic
Lather: Pacific Crest Caffeinated Shave Cream
Post: Witch hazel splash, Captain's Choice North, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Decent shave today. Only needed one pass with touch-up due to shaving late yesterday afternoon. The Pacific Crest cream didn't lather like I remembered. It almost seemed as if the brush sucked up all the cream before the lathering in the bowl could do anything. I was not too happy with it this time. I've used it before with more success.

I've enjoyed the Rapira blade! I've noticed a few bumps on my cheek so I may take tomorrow off from shaving. We'll see.

I hope all have a great New Year's Day!
