Write it up. Organize it with some purty photos and slap it onto some self publishing, print-on-demand site like lulu.com (they do a really good job with color photos), set a price, give us the link and sit back and watch the money roll in :D

Very much the same here. This would surely be the Schick compendium that people decades from now would reference :)

Thanks for the Intel there..I was thinking along those lines in terms of self publishing...I will look that up & do my homework on that...:angelic007:

Maybe I should learn more and write it. "Mrchick on Schick" has a ring to it

I did try a cut down feather in the PAL IM but it didn't top a Schick in my book. I don't think it lasts as long either but of course, YMMV. The Schick/PAL IM is still the best combo for me.

The old ads and some other resources say the G2 is a gold filled handle with the surface being 14K gold plated. The G3 is a hollow handle but also made of metal. I have a duplicate G3 that has some dents in the bottom of the handle that proves it. Although Billie's looks almost silver in the picture the G2 handle is all gold. It has a nice heft to it. :happy005:

I found my Canadian E2 to be an agressive bugger. Easy 2 pass BBS but a morning of serious razor burn followed on both occasions I tried it. If memory serves me it was Plat Plus blade doing the dirty.

That's correct Karl but there has been some confusion over this one because of what "Waits says in his Compendium"...What he says is misleading...It is a Gold Filled handle for sure but its filled with steel... In other words its a Gold plated solid steel handle...The Type G3 has a Steel hollow handle...Waits has caused a lot of confusion with his wording or he simply got it wrong...:)

Those USA made Plat blades are a tad rough I find an all...To be fair they were a major break through in technology at the time but they were superseded with the Schick Chromium & Teflon coated blades...Their Mythical status gets repeated in Forums though ...To be fair they were good in there day and a lot of older gents haven't forgotten that but hey I have to have a laugh every time I see them going for Crazy prices.. Forums Eh..:lyrtuy5:

I'm pretty sure the original ads refer to a gold filled handle as well but I know you can check that out. ;)

I think the confusion comes in with the definition of "Gold filled." Gold Filled is defined as significantly heavier than gold plating. Here's a definition from an antique heirloom site: "When something is gold filled, it has a thick sheet of gold applied to a base metal, 50 to 100,000 times thicker than gold plating, and in order for something to be considered Gold Filled, it must have a gold content of at least 1/20th the total weight of the item." So, it can be stainless steel but it is not plated. I would guess that's why the stamping on the handle refers to 1/20 14K GF SHELL HANDLE WEIGHTED - the 14K gold content is 1/20 the weight of the handle. On the ferrule itself there is other stamping which reads, "ALL OTHER PARTS GOLD ELECTROPLATE" which would indicate the handle is not gold plated.

If you are like me you'll need a really strong magnifying glass to read the stamping.

I would have to agree. I've only had good luck with the Plus Platinum in my F and it faded after a couple of shaves. They are not bad but I don't think they are all they are cracked up to be either. :shocked003:

Ok Smart Arse ...I didn't know that..:happy097:...But its still a steel handle...Here is what's in Waits Compendium...G2: 14kt gold handle (solid metal)...He does talk about a Gold filled handle elsewhere but it just the words he is using...A Freudian Slip of the Tongue ... I will plagiarize your Intel for my book..:happy102:

Bravo.....Our injector SE party thread librarian scores a goodone! Finally some closure.....I've seen this bantered about for many years but Billy just put this exactly like it is.....I guess Waits left out the parts in the parentheses....It's a gold (plated) filled (with steel) handle....now how could folks have misunderstood that?....Doh!

Well done @Karl G ....maybe that means...the rest of the razor is just plated.where as the handle is filled, weighted, shaped and plated....I wonder if they really have 1/5 gold? Time to bring in the jewelry team....I always thought the electroplating was some guy with gold fillings in his teeth waved an electro magnet over each razor and said a few words....lol!

Yup, it can certainly be steel and gold filled. Gold filled isn't a very clear term since it really doesn't mean something is filled with gold - just heavily coated with it so that it is at least 5% of its weight. :)
