How about a diatribe on the problems with Gillette - in the modern era?

I have no time for the modern Gillette razors. I'm stickin' with Wilkinson razors.

Most things sold in jugs in Kentucky aren't exactly aftershave. It's used preshave, in-shave, post shave, and as a cold remedy. Pretty fine mouthwash too.

(Kentucky is a rural US state, settled by people of Scots and Irish heritage, and is the center of American whiskey culture. Some producers even omit the "e", spelling it "whisky" as is common to Scotland.)

Day 5 - 90 Day Intro to SR

    image.jpeg

That's a rock. I've decided to shave SR style. Today just didn't feel confident. Contrary to the fine work today of Neal (Ivan), I was having a tentative day due to getting scraped up yesterday. I mixed the Route 66 even wetter, took a deep breath, and glide. I made one pass WTG. It was enough to regain a little confidence, and then did some ATG on the cheeks and finished it off with the Gillette. Scary close in places! The pic means I am determined to be back tomorrow with a straight. If the good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise...Just like that rock.

Thanks to all for your kind words about this.

I learn so much about shaving from all of you - from newbie to well-seasoned.
But it's the camaraderie that keeps me here. You are a great bunch of people.
    Thanks for being here!
    :thanks:

That shaky feeling is nothing new. No dishonor in either cutting a shave short or taking the day to use a DE until that passes. I like the rock though and what it symbolizes. I just finished watching Galaxy Quest on Netflix and I think Commander Taggert's words are appropriate for all who are learning........"Never give up, Never Surrender"!!

Congratulations on your progress with the Super Speed. I think it is similar to my experience with the Mühle R89, which I thought of as not shaving close enough. But after the November focus and a lot of technique practice it has become one of my favorite razors for an easy shave with near-BBS results.

And it looks good ;) What size is it? And did you get the regular or the extra dense knot? I'm thinking about buying one really nice badger this year - and Shavemac is on my shortlist.

That's brilliant. The nearest traditional shave shop to me is a 2 hour drive I have a trip planned on my birthday in February, I'm taking my wife, my dad and his wife so I can absolutely load up! I will look online for the small batch.

If you are not 'feeling it' put the straight down and slowly back away. Load a blade in your DE and shave. In a hurry or tentative? Put down the straight and slowly back away. Load a blade in your DE and shave.

Thank you Bill :happy088: Somebody asked if the razor would actually leave much lather on the face while shaving. According to your and my experience it does not if you want a close shave.

BTW: Yesterday's shave has been pretty lasting (is that the correct english term?) Not too much stubble-regrowth 22 hours later - but I'll shave anyways ;)

Glad you enjoyed your run with the doc. It was me asking about the lather. It was a selling point on a video I watched on the doc. I always associate lather remaining with poor angle.

That's ultimately what happened...didn't take the second pass very far. Been keeping a GSB loaded FB on six sitting beside the sink at all times for visual safety net, and used it today.

I might have seen that video too - is it the one on the PAA website? That guy shaves with an angle that in my experience is not the most effective one - should be more shallow. And then it doesn't leave that much lather.

    Also @Bill_F @Marverel

I did a month of DOC, and rate the razor highly. The technique I employ drops the angle low enough to clear most of the lather in one pass, much like any DE. The advantage of DOC on lather is dubious at best, but the head design is quite mild yet efficient.
