Morning bowl of my Half and Half in a Kaywoodie. Was helping a friend fix a hole in a fenceline at sunrise. Apparently some drunk slid off the road NYE or 1 January, taking down 20 yards (18 meters) of barbed wire. Easy fix, only three posts. We are done. Only issue was that at 20F (-6C) , I couldn't feel my hands when we were done, but I can't do a lot of that with bulky gloves. Only took about an hour, but a warm pipe feels good in the hand sometimes.
Kind of a novelty pipe for me today, Viprati in a clay pipe. The pipe actually smoked pretty well. It's got an ugly brown glaze on it and says Short Derry on the bowl and Germany on the stem, it was unsmoked and I bid $2 for it on fleabay (shipping was $4). I believe Short Derry is the pipe shape and size from an image in an old catalog. It kind of makes me want to gage an earlobe, so I can carry the pipe in it like sailors did 100+ years ago.
Hi this is my first posting here. I usually smoke cigars but last starting pipe smoking. I have three pipes but I only use one now because I like it so much more than my other pipes. It is a Stanwell 95 Trio Briar Pipe I purchased from @Weeper Warrior. I followed some good advice from @Bama Samurai and have my best smoke with a pipe.
Cool find. Briar pipes are actually a fairly recent thing for humanity. Clay was the way for thousands of years.
Pipe stayed fairly dry, I repeated that combo this morning before resting the pipe. That black pipe was the first imported pipe I ever broke in, and is the best pipe in my drawer for Virginia flakes.
PS 306 English Oriental Supreme in a meerschaum lined Kaywoodie billiard. The 306 is a flavorful tobacco with relatively light latakia.
That's actually not a tamper. That's what my grandfather called 'Marble's match box'. It is a waterproof match case issued to him in WWII. I use it to hold strike anywhere matches in my office, and the rough bottom of the geode chunk as a striker
That's a very nice looking pipe and I like the match case, I'll have to keep my eye out for one at the antique stores but I bet they are hard to find. EDIT - I see they are currently still selling the Marble Match Box, but it appears to be a different manufacturer with a low quality knock-off from the reviews I've read.
