Straights Focus January 6: Homemade PS Oil VDH Boar Brush Stirling San Antonio SS Ontario Cutlery Co. Stirling Unscented PSB Aqua Velva Musk I had another good shave this morning. I think I am finding that my date can take more passes/touch up with a straight than with the DE. I spent a little time touching up this morning, to the point that I would have had a lot of irritation with a DE, but I had very little this morning. Now, if my technique were a bit better, I wouldn't need to touch up so much, but that it a different discussion.
I am not using straights (yet - give it some time) but I'm agreeing with this statement. I feel like I could clean-up my jaw line five or six times and still have stubble to cut. It's getting better each day though and I'm learning to let you of a little leftover hair to save on time as well as any irritation that could result from too much shaving. My neck and jaw line need a little extra attention in my shaves so far. I know it will get better with time and better technique. My technique IS improving - I am light years ahead of where I was just two weeks ago.
That's exactly what I did on my Feather AC focus month. By the end of the month I was not even picking up the DE. Take your time, it will happen.
My father-in-law shaves without cream or soap or water. I don't know how he does it. It makes me cringe. My grandfather was similar - I don't think he used any soap or cream, but he used water. Of course he was telling me about this when he was in his late 80s.
Time to switch things up after five days with the MWF. I was finally getting good lather with the MWF and liked the performance. Today I lathered up some Route 66 soap and was instantly reminded how much I like this stuff. It lathers easy, is slick and smells great. I will do 5 or 6 days with this soap before switching to another. I dug out a Schick Krona today and got a really nice two pass shave. I'm only a month ahead of you, I shave my head and had two spots I just couldn't get no matter the amount of passes or direction. Believe me I hurt myself trying. I did eventually get it but still with extra passes. The guys suggested a more aggressive razor once I was confident and they where right my new razor gets these spots in two passes no problem. Of course aggressive razors bite with poor technique but at the same time get it right and fewer passes mean smoother skin. Just something to keep in mind for the future, glad your doing so well so soon.
Im just catching up after working in Wales all day. They aren't aware of internet yet. Sorry you got scraped up but your experience shows in that you knew to step back that is something I hope to learn before I take things to far. I still push my skin abit much and always regret it
