Changed the razor and blade from yesterday. Astra SS(1) and STAR razor. The STAR shaves just like the Tech.

The first pass was like a dream. The second pass I got a little carried away. Since I finally remembered this time, I lathered all three of my new brushes up while I had lather then tested each of them out on my face to compare before the second pass. I must have forgot what I was doing and got a little irritation by the time I was done. I will say, I'm glad all three brushes performed well(I was worried I messed up the boar brush), and each have their individual uses.

    Overall a DFS

The Schick Type D makes a great travel razor as I can send a loose blade ahead and load manually by opening the "scissors" handle. Today's shave left a lot of weepers. I blame it on the shave stick. Probably needed to apply more product as the lather was thin. Then again, I'm open to suggestions for travel sticks that lather like Arko but have what might be described as a "more delicate" odor.

Didn't really need a shave, but bought some Dove Mens Shaving Cream out of a tube at the store so tried it. I was hoping I would get similar results to the Nivea shaving cream in a tube but didn't. Lather was huge bubbles and not slick at all, but post-shave feel seemed good. I used the Dove Mens post shave balm too which was pretty good. It soaked in fast and did the job. No pics today because it wasn't really a shave, but thought I'd share my thoughts on the Dove Mens Shaving Cream.

    Williams soap's very last chance!

    Friday morning:

    Stirling Pre-Shave Soap :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055:
    Omega 49
    Super Speed/Derby day 5
    Williams SS
    Old Spice AS :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055:
    Old Spice Cologne :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055:

As I promised, I'll be giving Williams its VERY last chance before I write it off completely and if it lathers and performs well for me, then I'll put it back into my rotation. If it doesn't, this puck goes straight into the garbage can and trust me - this time I ain't kidding. I've been working to get my new Omega 49 brush broken in, and it's coming along so well so far. The Old Spice aftershave and cologne are two tried and very trusted items for me. ;) :D

To everyone, a great weekend in advance! :)

    Razor- '61 Aristocrat Adjustable (6)
    Blade- Treet Platinum (2)
    Brush- VDH Boar
    Soap- Williams

I was reminded today that it is best not to change too many variables at a time when I upped the Adjustable to 6 while using a blade I had never used before for the second time and a soap that I had only been using since the weekend. The bottom line- what should have been a DFS was marred by some minor irritation and 3 weepers.

Razor: Gillette Super Speed No Date Code 1947 (Birth Year)
    Blade: Personna SS (1)
Brush: Fendrihen Silver Tip Badger Black handle
    Soap: Route 66 Sweeney Todd
    A/S: Fine American Blend

I moved away from my focus today and there is a good reason. The day progressed pretty much as usual for a Winter Thursday. Did some running around this morning, got my wife her paper and headed into the indoor golf school for a lesson and to hit some balls. Everything went great, even had time to share some thoughts with other club makers and practised my putting. Headed home had a good lunch of leftover Chinese food. Worked on a putter grip I've been developing, and that went well also. Pretty good day. I noticed the mail truck go by from my shop window, and waited a bit to go get the mail. We have a community mail boxes we use now after the snow plow kept wrecking ours mail boxes year after year.
Now some time ago @Boojum1 said he had sent me something which left the U.S. on December 16/15 and had gone to Postal heaven. We where both sure whatever it was had been lost. Off I got to get the mail. I opened the mail box door and there's a box in the mail along with a few letters and a magazine my wife gets. I don't have my reading glasses on so I'm trying to figure out what I might have ordered. Nothing came to mind.
Much to my surprise I was the gift that @Boojum1 had sent in early December. When I opened it I couldn't believe my eyes. A Gillette 1947 Super Speed in amazing condition. It looked like it was just made yesterday. Okay early December. :) Thank you Mark for this incredible gift. In Keeping with the rules of DE shaving, Rule # 47 you must use a razor that is send to you on the day you receive it. I used the Gillette 1947 with a Personna SS, Route 66 Sweeney Todd, and Fine American Blend after shave. An amazing razor, shave soap, and after shave for a perfect BBS.

    20160107_174025.jpg

Prep: Ovcams crushed lime pre shave soap
    Razor: Gillette ball end tech
    Blade: Gillette nacet (2nd shave)
    Soap: I Coloniali
Post: Reef Point Dragons Blood Balm

2 pass shave today. I have tried many soaps since I started wet shaving, and I like many of them. However there has only been a few that blew me away. This is one of them. I Cononali makes such a great lather, and the scent is unique, it also has a nice touch of menthol as well. 2ND shave with the Nacet and so far so good. Finished off with Reef Point which is one of my favorite balms. BBS and a awesome shave!

It's too bad that Pears reformulated their soap, from what I hear a lot of people would use it for shaving and get great shaves.

Thanks. I've only used the Mühle once. It was soft but still had some scrub to it, not really pillow soft. I'm learning how different knots work best with different techniques. I've mostly been using 2 band knots or silver tips with much smaller blooms. This big Mühle lathered great in the SV bowl and actually had pretty good control considering the size of the bloom.
The handle is quite heavy which is good for whipping up the lather, but requires some 'muscle' to apply the lather.
I look forward to giving it some more lathers and seeing what develops.
    Cheers
